TTV+ Buyers: What Are They Looking For?

Simmi Karna, Content VP at Reliance Entertainment’s Big Synergy, spoke to TTV+ about the content she’s looking for in the international market.

TTVMedia, through its TTV+ platform and backed by ATV, presents its Buyers: What Are They Looking For? initiative to find out more about international buyers’ programming needs.

The interviews were conducted through the base of over 5,000 buyers registered on TTV+, a 24/7 online marketplace where buyers can look through catalogs from thousands of companies, and in which distributors can contact them to close businesses.

This time, we present Simmi Karna, Content VP at Reliance Entertainment’s Big Synergy.

Could you introduce yourself and your company?

Reliance Entertainment Studios is one of the biggest studios of India. We make content, as far as films are concerned, TV content, OTT content and short format content also.

What type of content are you looking for?

We are looking at more sitcoms, more family dramas, more smaller thrillers, rather than larger than life. And also formats, we are trying to do larger than life, but everyone started looking for a closed, smaller, happy content.

Any particular content has caught your eye over the last 12 months?

HBO’s content has caught a lot of attention, we are trying to get that. Mare of Easttown, also Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman’s The Undoing, that has caught a lot of interest, especially because you see it’s a crime, but it’s still a story about a family.

A lot of clients of mine are talking to me about Korean dramas, which are more family, romance, more on the lighter side.

Any title that has worked especially well on your screen recently?

We did one romantic show, because right now romance is lacking in people’s lives. Any format or any story that doesn’t have family doesn’t work for us. That’s why Mexican, Spanish dramas, Mexican Argentinian, Colombian dramas work very well for us.
