Cangaço Novo is the new Brazilian Amazon Original, set in the northeast of the country.

Amazon Prime Video announced the start of filming for a new original series in Brazil: Cangaço Novo.

The series, with 8 one-hour episodes, is produced by O2 Filmes (also by Manhãs de Setembro) and directed by Aly Curitiba and Fábio Mendonça. The scriptwriters are Fernando Garrido, Mariana Bardan, Eduardo Melo, Erez Milgrom and Viviane Pistache.

Filming is taking place in the northeast region of Brazil.

“Our focus on producing diverse local content takes a new step with Cangaço Novo, an action-packed series set in Northeast Brazil. This is an incredible opportunity to show the world the different parts of our country and their talents, and we know our clients will love this story,” said Malu Miranda, director of Brazilian Original Content at Amazon Studios.

The series stars Allan Souza Lima, Alice Carvalho, Thainá Duarte, Ricardo Blat, Marcélia Cartaxo, Hermila Guedes, Ênio Cavalcante, Adélio Lima, Joalisson Cunha, Pedro Lamin, Nivaldo Nascimento, Pedro Wagner, Rodrigo García and Luiz Carlos Vasconcelos.

Cangaço Novo tells the story of Ubaldo (Allan Souza Lima), an unhappy banker from the urban area of São Paulo who does not remember his childhood. He discovers that he has an inheritance and two sisters in the interior of Ceará: Dilvânia leads a group that worships his famous deceased father; and Dinorah is the only woman in a gang of bank robbers. Ubaldo comes to town, is worshiped for his great resemblance to his father, and is called to fulfill his destiny as the new mythical “cangaceiro” and supreme leader of the gang. Ubaldo will have to face bandits, murderers, corrupt cops, and literally blow up small towns as he embarks on his journey, trying to keep his moral values in check.

This new original Brazilian production joins other Amazon Original fiction series already released on the platform, such as Dom, Manhãs de Setembro and Desjuntados, and several ongoing projects, such as Lov3, Amar é Para os Fortes, Novela and Sentença.
