The CEO of Dori Media offered a keynote during Mipcancun, to talk about the company’s evolution since its launch in 2002, and its newest productions in Latin America.

This Thursday, November 16, during the current Mipcancun in Mexico, Nadav Palti, CEO of Dori Media, offered a special keynote alongside Joshua Mintz, Chief Content Officer for the Israeli company.

The executives spoke about the company’s evolution of the past 20 years, as well as their newest productions in Layin America, AMIA and LaLola, and the different production models behind them.

“This has been a very long journey, with ups and downs. The world has been changing in the last 20 years”, Nadav Palti began explaining during the conference.

“We launched Dori Media in 2002, 20 years ago. We immediately began producing in Argentina and Israel and mainly distributed content from Argentina to Israel. The first production was Rebelde Way, from Chris Morena, and Floricienta. And with this success we started to grow. In 2006 we started to operate our distribution area, Dori Media Distribution. And then we continued to produce a lot with the money we raised, like Lalola, Ciega a Citas, Sos mi vida, among others. And then in 2008 we had the worldwide recession and things started to change. Sony Pictures Television bought 50% of the channel in Israel, which we bought back around seven years later. In 2016/17, we understood Turkish dramas were going up and in Latin America telenovelas were going down a bit, and on the other hand, Netflix started to grow. So we started to produce high-end series, between 6 and 12 episodes”, the executive reminisced.

In regard to AMIA, the executive explained his motivation behind making this series a reality. “We spoke about AMIA, and said it’s a very important issue which nobody talks about and still today nobody is to blame, nobody was charged in court. And for us we saw it as an important issue and we had to produce something. So we created a completely new fiction, inspired by these two events”, he explained.

“The first season starts in 1992 with the bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, and ends with the bombing in the AMIA. We plan to do a second and third season, if the first one is successful,” he added.

In regard to the production models used, the executive explained to ttvnews that the two were very different in essence.

“For AMIA we didn’t have a pre commission. We developed it in the last few years, wrote it, filmed it already and we are going to sell it as a ready-made. Because we believe we can get a better deal if we can show the client the product and they can see what they’re going to buy”.

“And LaLola, the remake in Mexico, is a pre commission to ViX. ViX covered the budget and we are doing it with them, supervising the script. They have the influence on what happens and it will go on air on ViX for all of Latin America,” he explained.

“We are working all around the world, all the time. Sometimes we sell originals and a lot of remakes,” he said. “And for next year, 2024 and 2025, we already have a list of titles that will be produced which we now have in pre-production”, he concluded.
