The Spanish group made its presence felt at the current edition of LA Screenings with a robust catalog of the fiction and series that continue to garner positive results and for which it is recognized worldwide.

A portfolio of original Spanish productions that enjoy success not only in their country of origin but also internationally throughout Latin America is the driving force behind Atresmedia International’s entry into each market.

On this occasion, the Spanish giant brought its impressive collection of series to Los Angeles for a new edition of LA Screenings, where they are presenting their latest releases, as well as the series that continue to enjoy great acclaim in recent seasons.

“We’ve come here to LA Screenings with the latest additions to our catalog and with some exciting news about other series we’ve presented in other markets,” said Miguel García, Director of International Sales at Atresmedia International Sales, in an interview with ttvnews.

Leading the list is the group’s latest major production, 33 Days, the new six-episode original series created by renowned investigative journalist Carles Porta, which will debut on Atresplayer on June 7.

Inspired by true events, the series reconstructs the escape of two prisoners from Ponent prison in Lleida and the intense manhunt that kept the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police) on high alert for over a month. It is an Atresmedia production in collaboration with Luminol Media, Goroka, and Lastor Media.

In addition, the group is presenting The Girl, the third installment in the The Gypsy Bride saga. Directed by Paco Cabezas, the series is a loose adaptation of the third novel of the same name in Carmen Mola’s saga, which premiered last April, also on Atresplayer, following the enormous success of The Gypsy Bride and The Purple Network.

They also continue to present The Maid’s Daughters) the adaptation of Sonsoles Ónega’s successful novel, winner of the 2023 Planeta Prize. This 8-episode drama, produced by Buendia Estudios and Atresmedia, tells the story of two families—the marquesses and the maid—whose lives are completely transformed after a baby swap.

And of course, there’s Dreams of Freedom, an Atresmedia production in collaboration with Diagonal (Banijay Iberia), which recently premiered its third season and continues to be one of the most-watched series on Spanish TV. “We are extremely happy with Dreams of Freedom. The truth is, the Dreams of Freedom factory keeps going, and we’ve had nothing but good news since March 2024. It consistently achieves audience milestones, setting records not only in the number of viewers but also in market share.”

Atresmedia is also in the midst of producing several more major exclusive series, which will premiere this year on Atresplayer and in the coming months on its free-to-air channel, Antena 3.

These include Ágata y Lola, the Spanish adaptation of the French format that inspired Bright Minds, an 8-episode police procedural produced in collaboration with Portocabo; A la Deriva, an 8-episode drama produced with Buendía Estudios and Boomerang TV, which tells the story of five fishermen who returned to their village after being presumed dead following a shipwreck months earlier; and Trazos Ocultos, a 6-episode domestic thriller produced by Buendía Estudios Canarias and Atresmedia TV, starring Toni Acosta and Rodolfo Sancho. It tells the story of Inés, who discovers her husband is leading a double life and will fight to uncover it.

“We are producing a lot and will be presenting more new projects at the next edition of Mipcom,” said the executive. “In addition, new seasons of other series are coming, such as Física o Química: Nueva Generación and ¿A quién estás esperando?”

“There are more projects in the pipeline; filming continues on other things,” he added. “We have Sira, which is also already in full production, the second season of El tiempo entre costuras, the second book by María Dueñas, which will also most likely arrive in early 2027.”

Another major genre for Atresmedia is true crime, where new projects are also coming this year. “We are investing heavily in true crime,” said the executive. “New true crime series are coming. One called Los hombres equivocados, about Moroccans wrongly convicted and who spent more than 20 years in prison. And another one is coming about con artists, somewhat in line with the success of our series El depredador de Sevilla, which is on Netflix worldwide and has been a complete and utter success. And we continue to invest in this type of content.”

And as if that weren’t enough, the Spanish giant has also ventured into the trend of vertical content. “The idea is to have four or five original vertical series by the end of the year, in addition to short adaptations of horizontal formats into vertical formats. This is partly to see and test what appeals most to audiences in these vertical formats,” the executive revealed.
