The hit Spanish talent show continues its international expansion with Onza Distribution.
WBITVP France has acquired the option rights to adapt The Celeb Challenge, the successful Spanish prime time talent show produced by 7yAcción and represented internationally by Onza Distribution.
The format, originally titled El Desafío in Spain, has become one of the most successful entertainment shows on Spanish television, leading prime time audiences across six seasons on Atresmedia. Its combination of spectacular challenges, TV personalities and high production values has turned it into a benchmark in entertainment programming.
The agreement marks a new step in the international journey of The Celeb Challenge, as one of Spain’s most recognizable entertainment brands continues to spark interest among major broadcasters looking for big, ambitious prime time formats. With its strong track record in premium entertainment production, WBITVP France will now explore bringing a local version of the format to French audiences.
“We are really proud to represent this very successful format for France. It’s inventiveness and longevity are the best testament that the success can be replicated. It’s family entertainment at it’s best, with celebrities from all generations ready to test their limits in all sorts of challenges. We think this show can bring the coveted transgenerational coviewing to primetime and we are eager to bring this to French audiences”, says Bruno Henriquet, President of WBITVP France.
Produced by 7yAcción, The Celeb Challenge features well-known celebrities facing extreme physical and mental challenges every week, pushing themselves beyond their limits in front of a live audience and a panel of judges. Since its premiere, the format has consistently delivered outstanding ratings and become one of the flagship entertainment brands on Spanish television.
The acquisition further strengthens the successful collaboration between 7yAcción and Onza Distribution, which also includes internationally recognized formats such as The Anthill and The Way Home.
“This agreement is another great example of how The Celeb Challenge keeps winning over producers outside Spain. The format has all the ingredients of a big entertainment event, and we are excited to see WBITVP France bring its own vision to it,” says Erika Gómez, Head of Sales at Onza Distribution.
With six successful seasons and a solid track record in Spanish prime time, The Celeb Challenge continues to establish itself as one of the most attractive entertainment formats in the international market.
