Juanjo Marrero, General Director at Funwood Media, spoke to TTV+ about the content he’s looking for in the international market.
TTVMedia, through its TTV+ platform and backed by Eccho Rights, launched the initiative Buyers: What Are They Looking For? during Miptv, to find out more about international buyers’ programming needs.
The interviews were conducted through the base of over 5,000 buyers registered on TTV+, a 24/7 online marketplace where buyers can look through catalogs from thousands of companies, and in which distributors can contact them to close businesses.
This time, we present Juanjo Marrero, General Director at Funwood Media.
Could you please introduce your company?
Funwood Media is a company that was founded in 2008, so we’ve been in the market for a long time. Our DNA is mainly a distributor, acquiring and selling products, or representing third-party catalogs. And recently, 3 or 4 years ago, we dove into production, combining the two activities, production and distribution.
What type of content are you looking for?
We are now mainly looking for TV movies. And withing the world of TV movies, friendly stories, mainly rom-coms. Maybe due to the pandemic or a more general trend, we are looking for friendly stories, love stories, rom-coms. A product that can mainly air at any time during the day.
Is there any specific content that has worked particularly well these last 12 months?
Mainly in Spain, but it’s a phenomenon that was taking place in other countries in Latin America and Europe, is Turkish dramas taking over prime time. This has definitely been one of the standout facts of the past year. Seeing how two of the main broadcasters in Spain bet on Turkish dramas in prime time. And not just one night, but two, three or even four nights in prime time. I think it’s certainly the most relevant thing to happen recently.
