The Spanish and Brazilian production companies will co-produce the new dystopic thriller, To Kill a Queen, which will be presented at the upcoming Natpe Miami.

The Brazilian production company Boutique Filmes, located in São Paulo, reinforces its strategy to reach a global audience with the announcement of their new dystopic thriller project, To Kill a Queen, at the 10th edition of the NATPE Miami on January 24th, being the first market that the new production will be presented.

As part of the producer international expansion plan, Boutique Filmes formed a partnership with one of the biggest entertainment groups of the world, THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO, to co-produce a new dramaturgy premium series.

The show will have eight episodes, with one hour of duration each. To Kill a Queen was inspired by the Brazilian beauty pageants that occurred in the 1950s, where the women were (even more than today) exclusives symbols of maternity and matrimony. “With the advance of conservatism around the world, especially in Brazil, nothing would be more original than create a futuristic reality inspired by retrograde values from the past” explained Ram Tellem, head of international content development of The Mediapro Studio.

“Our bet is that on the current international market we’ll be able to create emotional connections with the public of many countries, even if the series is not spoken in the English language. Being associated with THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO on this project says a lot about our intention of having international creative collaborations, search for financing out of Brazil and keep the rights of the shows we create”, says Gustavo Mello, executive producer of the new series and company partner of Boutique.

The Boutique has been recognized for productions of dystopian sci-fi, such as 3% and the recent Onisciente, which premieres on January 29th on Netflix, reaching 190 countries. With this perception, the producer decided to explore this genre even more, but now showing a soft kind of dystopia, since the story is set in 2025. “The dystopian genre is one of the most popular on other territories and connects easily with the audience because shows contradictions and dilemmas of the present”, Mello completes.

To Kill a Queen gets into the international projects currently on going at THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO, whose strategy of creating, producing and distributing high quality entertainment content to global audiences, include this year among others the thriller The Head, the drama thriller The Paradise, co-produced with the Finnish chain YLE, The New Pope, the series by Paolo Sorrentino, recently premiered worldwide; or the projects developed in US and Latin America, which also include The internationals, Las Bravas F.C., Victoria Small or El Acantilado.
