The first titles under this alliance are Las pelotaris and La sangre y la gloria.

TelevisaUnivision and The Mediapro Studio announced today a strategic alliance to produce and develop exclusive content for ViX+, the premium subscription streaming service (SVOD) scheduled to be launched during the second half of this year. The drama series Las Pelotaris and the sports docuseries La Sangre y la Gloria (working titles) are the first projects as part of this alliance.

“Welcoming The Mediapro Studio, one of the leading audiovisual production companies in Spain, as a partner and member of our creative community is crucial as we continue to build the service that will deliver the best in-language content for the Spanish-speaking world,” said Rodrigo Mazón, executive vice president and general manager of ViX+. “We are very excited to present the first original productions resulting from this strategic alliance and to be able to develop more stories together with the highest production values.”

“We are proud ViX+ trust us to join their service as partners to work together in the production and development of new content with our creative talent from both sides of the Atlantic,” said Marta Ezpeleta, director of the international area of The Mediapro Studio. “This alliance is an important step in the international expansion of STUDIO and its consolidation both in Latin America and the United States, where we already have a solid infrastructure with our production facilities and a great team of creators.”

Las Pelotaris is a thrilling fictional drama set in the 1920’s that tells the story of three pioneering women who broke barriers to succeed. Created by Marc Cistaré (Vis a vis, El barco, La víctima número 8), the series will be filmed in Spain and Mexico under the direction of Jesús Rodrigo (Vis a vis, El internado, Estoy vivo, Un paso adelante) with a script by Adriana Rivas (Vis a vis, Estoy vivo, Águila roja), Javier Naya (El barco, Rabia) and Mexico’s Anaí López (XY, Bienvenida realidad, Infames).

La Sangre y la Gloria (The Blood and the Glory) is a docuseries that looks into renowned Mexican sports figures and their relationship with the world of crime as either victims or protagonists. The project is created by Juan Villoro, author of El Testigo (XXII Novel Herralde Prize), Dios es Redondo, Balón Dividido and winner of the Manuel Vázquez Montalbán International Prize for Sports Journalism awarded by the Barcelona Football Club. Everardo González, who has directed award-winning films at prestigious festivals such as Berlin, IDFA, Toulouse, Locarno, Montreal, BAFICI, Sarajevo, Guadalajara, Valladolid and Morelia, will be helming this docuseries. His works include La Libertad del Diablo (Amnesty International Award at the Berlinale), A 3 Minute Hug and Children from the Narcozone (nominated for the News and Doc Emmy Award).

As part of the recently launched ViX, the largest Spanish-language streaming service will feature a premium subscription-based (SVOD) ViX+ tier with more than 10,000 hours of content, including more than 50 original series and movies in the first year alone.
