The distributor has expanded its unscripted catalog with the addition of singing competition The Scout, talent format From Unknown to Legend and family reality series Granny Goes Global.
Something Special has acquired three new Korean formats for international distribution: The Scout, From Unknown to Legend and Granny Goes Global, further expanding its portfolio of unscripted entertainment formats.
The announcement was made by JinWoo Hwang, CEO, Founder and Executive Producer of Something Special, alongside InSoon Kim, Co-CEO and Chief Business Officer.
Among the new acquisitions is The Scout, a singing competition format produced by LSC Entertainment and originally broadcast by ENA in South Korea. Rather than following a traditional elimination-based structure, the show focuses on artist development, bringing together experienced vocalists who receive coaching, mentorship and performance challenges designed to unlock their full potential.
The company has also added From Unknown to Legend, a talent competition produced and aired by MBN that follows comedians, actors, dancers and other emerging performers. Combining live performances, expert mentoring and audience participation, the format charts the transformation of undiscovered talent into entertainment stars.
Completing the slate is Granny Goes Global, a family reality format produced by JWonder for EBS, in which grandparents travel abroad to reunite with their grandchildren and relatives. The series blends travel, emotional storytelling and cross-generational connections, highlighting family bonds through international reunions.
“We are pleased to offer a diverse slate of formats to the international market. Shows like The Scout and From Unknown to Legend take the talent competition genre to the next level. We appreciate our partners MBN, JWonder and LSC Entertainment for trusting us to bring these formats to the global industry,” said JinWoo Hwang.
InSoon Kim also highlighted the international appeal of Granny Goes Global: “It is a warm and uplifting family reality format that audiences will truly enjoy. The series follows grandparents traveling to reunite with their families in different countries, combining laughter, emotion and heartfelt moments. Following its success on EBS, we look forward to sharing the format with broadcasters around the world.”
