On the premiere on September 14, the telenovela reached 18.8% share on SIC, and rose to the top 3 on Disney+ and Opto.
Portugal’s SIC premiered its newest telenovela A Greater Destiny (Destino Maior) yesterday, September 14th, on yet another multiplatform collaboration between the leading TV station, its streaming platform Opto and Disney+.
On its premiere day, the telenovela charmed the Portuguese audience from the very first minute, securing the top spot in its time slot with over one million viewers, a rating of 7.7 per cent and a share of 18.8 per cent. Less than 24 hours since its debut, it is also currently ranked among the top 3 most watched titles on both Disney+ and Opto, where the five weekly episodes are available in advance, allowing fans to exclusively follow the story before it airs on SIC.
Adapted from Kanal D’s Hicran (produced by Filmevi Yapım for Inter Medya and Telemundo), the long-running drama follows the story of Lúcia Cruz, a humble woman forever scared by the pain of losing her newborn daughter during childbirth. After an unexpected accident, she seeks employment at the prestigious Ferreira do Vale estate, where she is entrusted with caring for a young girl, unaware that is her own daughter. As a deep maternal bond begins to form between them and Lúcia finds herself falling in love with her employer, Eduardo, their lives become entangled in a web of lies, buried secrets and long-hidden betrayals, threatening to destroy everything Lúcia has fought to rebuild.
Following the success of Vitória, the premiere of A Greater Destiny reflects SIC’s ongoing investment in adapting internationally successful formats and further consolidates its relationship with one of the world’s leading global streaming players.
With a stellar cast featuring actors Sarra Barradas, Rita Blanco, Sofia Ribeiro and Diogo Amaral, this latest release joins SIC International Distribution’s vast fiction catalogue of powerful compelling stories that resonate with audiences worldwide. The content sales team will be present at Mipcom Cannes from October 12 to 15 to showcase its portfolio of premium content, including its slate of short series and factual titles, as well as long-running blockbusters Chapters of Life, Broken Promise and a new version Vitória.
