Powerful Start for MipCancun Online+

The first day of the virtual event had a powerful conference line-up and its first agreements announced.

1 – MipCancun started this Tuesday with more than 600 participants

The 2020 edition of MipCancun began this Tuesday in a virtual format. According to the organization, the event has more than 600 registered delegates representing more than 500 companies and 44 countries.

The event is taking place on the MipCancun Online+ platform and will run until Friday, November 20.

2 – The Ambassador’s Daughter acquired in the US

Inter Medya announced the sale of The Ambassador’s Daughter to Univision, to broadcast in the US Hispanic market. The United States thus joins the more than 50 territories that have already acquired the series produced by O3 and NGMedia, starring Engin Akyürek and Neslihan Atagül.

3 – VIS signs first-look deal with Marc Anthony’s production company

The renowned artist and Felipe Pimiento, COO of Magnus Studios, will be the executive producers on the list of projects they will produce with Viacom International Studios.

4 – Powerful conference line-up

As for the lectures, the first day got off to a strong start. Among the conferences and presentations of the day, the following stand out:

Marcos Santana, president of Telemundo Global Studios, offered a powerful keynote. The executive stressed the importance of the Spanish-speaking audience in the US, highlighting that “we are more than 60 million Hispanics, we make up 18% of the country’s population, which places us only below Mexico, in the largest Hispanic community of the world”.

The Wit offered its traditional Fresh TV Fiction and Fresh TV Formats lectures.

Regarding fictions, the consultancy firm highlighted two major trends of the year: “Fiction is stronger in Latin America than the rest of the world and Turkish dramas conquered new territories.” The list of fictions includes Turkish titles from Inter Medya, Eccho Rights and Mistco, and Latin titles from Globo, HBO and NBCU, among others.

Regarding the formats, the firm highlighted that “34 entertainment formats were adapted in Latin America in 2020”, and presented its selection with formats from Beta Entertainment, Fremantle, Banijay, NBCU, SPT and Mediterraneo.

Disney+ made its official presentation, the same day of its launch in LatAm. Leonardo Aranguibel from The Walt Disney Company Latin America stated that “for Disney+, being in Latin America represents more than just a brand or product launch. It is a whole new transformation.”

– Other outstanding talks were given by Alejandro Rojas, from Parrot Analytics; Armando Bo and Javiera Balmaceda, for El Presidente, from Amazon; Adam Lewinson from Tubi and Beatriz Cea-Okan from Inter Medya.
