Agustín Marco del Pont, currently the Mexican operation’s Sales Director, will take over on January 1, 2027. Alexander will conclude his tenure on December 31, following a career spanning more than four decades in film distribution.
Philip Alexander will retire from his position as Vice President and General Manager of Sony Pictures Releasing Mexico on December 31, bringing to a close a 41-year career with the company and its film distribution operations. He will be succeeded by Agustín Marco del Pont, who will assume leadership of the Mexican operation on January 1, 2027.
Under Alexander’s leadership, Sony’s Mexican operation established itself as one of the company’s strongest contributors worldwide. His tenure also spanned significant changes in the distribution business and the evolution of the local theatrical market.
Before taking on responsibilities in Mexico, Alexander built his career at United International Pictures (UIP), holding positions across several European markets before joining Columbia Pictures. He subsequently led the Fox Columbia Pictures operation in Colombia, based in Bogotá, before taking the helm of Columbia Pictures Mexico.
Among the milestones of his career was the establishment and leadership of Buena Vista Columbia TriStar, a joint venture between Walt Disney Studios and Sony Pictures Releasing in Mexico that operated for 26 years. Throughout his career, Alexander was involved in the release of more than 2,000 international and Mexican films.
In reflecting on his departure, Alexander highlighted the collective effort behind the operation’s achievements and expressed his gratitude to the Sony and Disney teams, as well as the exhibitors and producers with whom he worked over the decades. He also voiced confidence in his successor’s ability to continue developing the business in Mexico.
Agustín Marco del Pont to take over in January
Marco del Pont steps into the role from his current position as Sales Director at Sony Pictures Releasing Mexico, where he has been involved in commercial strategy and relationships with exhibition partners. He joined the Mexican team nearly six years ago, having begun his professional career at UIP Argentina in 2009, with experience in sales and marketing.
The transition has been coordinated with Alexander to ensure operational continuity and maintain the company’s commercial relationships in one of Latin America’s key theatrical distribution markets.
The leadership change comes amid an ongoing transformation of the theatrical business, with release strategies, exhibitor partnerships and title positioning remaining central to the performance of major studios across the region.
