Nordisk Film TV, the Banijay Entertainment label, will produce the Danish version of Passion Distribution’s social experiment format.

Passion Distribution has announced the third international adaptation of Virgin Island in 2026. The social experiment format, originally produced by Double Act for Channel 4, has been commissioned by TV 2 Denmark, with Banijay Entertainment label Nordisk Film TV producing the local version.

The Danish adaptation, which has recently wrapped filming in Greece, will follow a group of young men and women as they confront issues surrounding intimacy and relationships.

The deal follows adaptations commissioned by Dutch public broadcaster BNNVARA, produced by Concept Street, and RTL+ in Germany, produced by RTL Studios. Passion Distribution also confirmed that several additional international versions are currently in development.

Virgin Island became Channel 4’s biggest streaming launch in its history across any genre. Its first season also delivered the broadcaster’s highest consolidated share among 16–34-year-olds since modern records began, performing at four times the channel’s benchmark for the demographic.

The second season, which premiered in 2026, further strengthened the format’s performance. In May, it grew its 16–34 audience by 11% year on year and became the most-watched programme of the month among this demographic across all UK commercial channels, outperforming titles including Gogglebox, The Great Pottery Throw Down and Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

The format has also received significant industry recognition. In 2026, it won the Broadcast Award for Best Factual Entertainment Programme, while in 2025 it received the National Reality TV Award for Best Social Experiment Show. The series was also nominated for a BAFTA TV Award and a Grierson Award.

Marianne Bjørn, Format Manager at TV 2 Denmark, said the format explores intimacy and relationships from an emotional and contemporary perspective. Ulrik Jorgensen, Managing Director of Nordisk Film TV, highlighted the international interest generated by the format and its approach to a subject that is rarely explored on television.

For Rob Davis, Executive Producer at Double Act, the format’s international expansion demonstrates the universal nature of issues surrounding intimacy and connection among young people. Meanwhile, Nick Tanner, Director of Sales and Co-Productions at Passion Distribution, described the Danish adaptation as the first Scandinavian version of the format.

Virgin Island is internationally distributed by Passion Distribution, a company specializing in unscripted content and entertainment formats.
