Globo arrived at Mipcom 2026 with a series of commercial announcements and new international partnerships, unveiled during a showcase held on Sunday, October 11, at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes. The Brazilian media company confirmed the sale of Blood Red (Vermelho Sangue) to the BBC, highlighted new adaptations of its scripted properties in Portugal, Turkey and Greece, and presented an agreement with Endemol Shine Brasil to develop original entertainment formats.

“We’re very happy. This is the second consecutive showcase we’ve held at Mipcom, and we really enjoy doing it because it’s a way of staying close to the audience here. It’s something we’ve been doing for a long time at Natpe, and taking it to different markets is very interesting because it allows us to bring all our announcements together and show the market everything we’re offering,” said Pablo Ghiglione, Head of International Sales & Co-productions – Americas and APAC at Globo, speaking with ttv.

“This is also a very important year for us because it marks 50 years since the first international sale of a Globo telenovela, which was to Uruguay. It’s a very interesting year, and we’re doing many different things,” he added. The telenovela was The Beloved (O Bem-Amado), which premiered in Uruguay in 1976.

Ghiglione also highlighted the work carried out following the company’s international sales restructuring in 2025. “As you know, last year we reorganized our commercial division and expanded our sales team. Staying close to the market is very important to us. And when I say staying close to the market, I mainly mean staying close to our clients,” he explained.

“These are times of enormous transformation in the industry and, more than ever, we need to understand our clients’ challenges, the problems they’re facing and what solutions we can find together within the full range of business opportunities Globo offers. That includes finished programming, formats, coproductions and the different genres we produce,” he said.

Globo’s Stories Find New Lives in International Markets

During its Cannes presentation, Globo highlighted new international adaptation agreements, including partnerships with SIC in Portugal, Ay Yapım in Turkey and Alpha TV in Greece, another raft of deals that showcase the power of Globo’s storytelling, no matter in what format.

“I think part of the [reason for this success] lies in Globo’s DNA. We’ve always said it: it’s the power of stories, the narrative strength of Globo’s storytelling, something we’ve been doing for decades,” Ghiglione said, discussing the international appeal of the company’s content.

“Over the past 50 years, for most of that time, we’ve done it through stories told in Brazil. But once we made the decision to license our scripts for local adaptations, those stories reached new horizons. Being able to preserve that narrative strength while telling the story in a local way is fantastic,” he explained.

“It’s a trend we’re seeing in the market. Audiences want to see themselves on screen in a different, more local way. But at the same time, international stories continue to travel. There’s this duality: on the one hand, the importance of local storytelling, and on the other, the continued appeal of international content. That balance is very healthy,” he added.

Avenida Brasil 2 Generates Interest Ahead of Its Premiere

Among Globo’s upcoming releases is Avenida Brasil 2, the continuation of one of its most internationally successful telenovelas. Written by João Emanuel Carneiro, the new production will revisit the characters years after the events of the original series and is scheduled to premiere in Brazil in January 2027.

“Avenida Brasil is not a remake. It’s a continuation of the story. It’s different from what we did with Pantanal or Vale Tudo, for instance, which were extremely successful remakes both in Brazil and now internationally,” Ghiglione explained.

“Avenida Brasil 2 is something different from what we’ve done before because it will continue the story around fifteen years after the original Avenida Brasil ended. We’re very excited about it,” he said.

“The day Globo announced that we were going to have Avenida Brasil 2, my phone exploded with messages from international clients who had immediately heard the news. It was incredible,” he recalled.

“We’re already negotiating in several markets, and we’ll have news very soon. Certainly well before the series premieres, because interest is extremely strong. That makes us very happy, and we’re eager to work on its international distribution,” he revealed.

Another announcement from Globo’s Cannes showcase was its agreement with Endemol Shine Brasil to develop original entertainment formats with international sales potential. “That’s part of our search for innovation, for doing things differently at a time when the industry is changing. I think now, more than ever, we have to be creative, and these agreements demonstrate exactly that,” Ghiglione said.

“On the one hand, we have our traditional sales structure, which we expanded through last year’s reorganization and which is already delivering excellent results. For example, the adaptation of Señora del destino in Peru with América, which was a huge success, or the sale of Blood Red to the BBC, which was something completely unprecedented even for the BBC itself,” he highlighted. “We have that traditional side of the business, but we also need to be creative in other areas. That’s exactly what the co-development agreement with Endemol is about: our Globo Studios teams working together with the international market to develop successful formats, this time co-created by Endemol and Globo.”
