Roger Casamajor, Macarena García, Lola Dueñas, Carmen Machi, Ana Rujas, Albert Pla, Amaia, Biel Rossell and Cecilia Roth head up the cast of this family thriller about overcoming trauma.

La Mesías, Movistar Plus+ original series in collaboration with Suma Content, written, directed and produced by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, unveils its cast.

Roger Casamajor, Macarena García, Lola Dueñas, Carmen Machi, Ana Rujas, Albert Pla, Amaia, Biel Rossell and Cecilia Roth head up the cast of this family thriller that deals with overcoming trauma, faith as a tool to fill the void, and art as the only escape from terror.

The series also features a very young cast making their debut after a long search process, involving several casting calls by Eva Leira and Yolanda Serrano. La Mesías is the first break for Irene Balmes, Bruno Núñez, Carla Moral, Iona Roig, Lluc Jornet, Sara Martínez, Arlet Zafra, Joana Buch and Ninoska Linares, who play the children and teenagers.

Javier Ambrossi: “The casting process was spectacular. We have always mixed big names with new talent and in La Mesías we are taking this to the max. It is really nice to see the mix of artists. Its a wonderful cast, incredibly diverse, that clearly backs young and local talent”.

Javier Calvo: “We haven’t worked as directors since Veneno. Its been great to not only reconnect with directing but also to get together with the crew again, as they are like our second family. We have already worked with all the crew leaders and its been a great experience to be back with them. We think that La Llamada, Paquita Salas and Veneno all found their own vibe, and now La Mesías is finding its”.

For Domingo Corral, Director of Original Programming at Movistar Plus+: “The more I get to know Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, the more I like the way they approach this job. They perfectly embody the kind of creators we like to work with. They always strive for emotion and authenticity, and they are totally demanding when they do this, giving us a unique and very personal approach. We feel privileged to be able to share this adventure with them, which is already bringing us so much joy in its creation process”.

The series began shooting on 16 August and will run for 22 weeks in different locations across Catalonia.

La Mesías, which will be coming to the platform in the near future, is the most ambitious, thoughtful and complex project from the pair of creators after hits like La Llamada, Paquita Salas and Veneno.

La Mesías crew includes professionals with long and proven track records, who have returned to work with the creative duo. Gris Jordana, Gaudí award winner and Goya nominee for Libertad, is the director of photography; Roger Bellés, Gaudí nominee for La próxima piel, is the art director; Ana López Cobos, Goya nominee for Quién te cantará, is the costume designer, and Rodrigo Madrigal (Cardo) is responsible for the sound.

After their work together on Veneno and films such as Madres paralelas, Pablo Morillas is in charge of hairstyling and Mariló Osuna of make-up.

Also working with the directors are Pilar Robla (La reina de España) as production manager and Csilla Szigeti (Spy Game) as direction coordinator.

La Mesías is a Movistar Plus+ original series in collaboration with Suma Content, written, directed and produced by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo.

Movistar Plus+ International will be handling the international sales of the series.
