Reed Midem announced its traditional event on the weekend prior to Miptv is changing venues from the Martinez Hotel into the Palais des Festivals, due to “unforeseen renovation works”.

Reed Midem, organizers of Mipcom and Miptv, announced a new venue for the MIPDoc 2020 event, which is moving from the traditional Martinez Hotel to the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.

The organization explained the new location is due to “unforeseen renovation works” in the ballroom of the Martinez Hotel.

MIPDoc will take place at the Salon Les Ambassadeurs, located on Levels 3 and 4 of the Palais.

The move will also bring MIPDoc into the same venue as MIPFormats to create what Reed Midem calls a “unified market experience for the unscripted production, distribution and buyer communities” in the lead up to Miptv.

Lucy Smith, deputy director of the Television division at Reed Midem, said: “The Palais des Festivals is our home for Miptv and MIPFormats with all the facilities we need, so we have been able to quickly manage this unexpected transition from the hotel with minimal challenges, while creating a new experience for MIPDoc participants.

“The venue move actually accelerates the goal we had for 2021, which was to move MIPDoc into the Palais bringing the unscripted community under one roof, as part of the transformation of Miptv,” Smith continued.

The new location also comes in a year of transformation for Miptv, which will present a revitalized event concentrated under one roof in the Palais des Festivals, with more affordable options for exhibitors and a new focus on buyers, content production and development.

MIPDoc features one of the largest digital screenings libraries for factual content, while also hosting a conference program, matchmaking events and a dedicated coproduction marketplace for international producers, buyers, commissioners and distributors.

The 2020 editions of MIPDoc and MIPFormats will take place on the weekend of March 28 and 29, while Miptv will run March 30 to April 2.
