The deal covers France, Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland, where Mediawan’s production companies will develop local adaptations of the format.
Mediawan has acquired the option rights to Trojan Horse, the original unscripted format created by Kinetic Content, for several key European territories, expanding the collaboration between the two companies following the group’s recent acquisition of The North Road Company.
The deal covers France, Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland, where Mediawan’s production companies will develop local adaptations of the format as part of the group’s strategy to build international IP and strengthen creative collaboration across its European operations.
Created by Kinetic Content, the US production company founded in 2010 and led by CEO Chris Coelen, Trojan Horse is a high-concept game show inspired by one of Greek mythology’s most iconic stories. The format reimagines the legendary deception of the Trojan Horse as a contemporary studio competition in which teams must decide whether the giant horse before them contains a valuable prize or a dangerous trap.
“Joining Mediawan has given us a tremendous opportunity to develop and share original IP across an extraordinary network of world-class producers. Trojan Horse is the kind of format that travels; it’s instantly understandable, highly adaptable and designed to engage audiences anywhere. We’re thrilled to see our partners across Europe bring this format to life,” said Chris Coelen, CEO of Kinetic Content.
Elisabeth d’Arvieu, Group Chief Content Officer of Mediawan and CEO of Mediawan Pictures, said the acquisition further demonstrates the group’s ambition to strengthen creative and commercial collaboration across its global production footprint.
“By aligning several group companies around a single high-potential format, we aim to accelerate local adaptations while benefiting from shared expertise, coordinated development and a collective approach to building premium unscripted IP,” she added.
