Fifteen productions from Argentina, Colombia, Brazil and the US Hispanic stand out among the 44 finalists for the 2020 International Emmy Awards, with titles from HBO LatAm, Disney, Telemundo, Univision, Globo, Record, Caracol, Telefe, Flow and Netflix.
The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominations for the 2020 International Emmy Awards, which will reward the best international television broadcast throughout 2019.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony produced in New York on Monday, November 23, 2020. All details will be announced in October.
“Congratulations to all the nominees! We are especially proud to recognize and honor the best storytellers, producers and performers in the world,” said Bruce L. Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
“In a time of crisis in which most of us have to stay at home most of the time, television entertains us and opens a window to our world,” he added.
LATIN CONTENT AND TALENT
The list includes 44 finalists, divided into 11 categories and from 20 countries.
And this edition celebrates the great moment that Latin television is experiencing, with a total of 15 nominations from the region: 7 from Brazil, 4 from the US Hispanic, 3 from Argentina and 1 from Colombia.
Noteworthy is the nomination of The Bronze Garden, in its second season, in the competitive Drama Series category. The Argentine fiction produced by Polka for HBO Latin America will fight for the award against Germany’s Charité 2 (T2) from UFA Fiction, and two Netflix productions: Criminal UK from the United Kingdom and Delhi Crime from India.
Victoria Smalls, from ViacomCBS International Studios and Oficina Burman for Telefe, competes in the Best Telenovela category. And the third Argentine production is the docu-reality program Mil manos por Argentina (by Storylab and Atomic Lab for Flow) in the Short-Form Series category.
From Brazil, Globo received three nominations: its production Órfãos da Terra (Orphans of a Nation) will compete for Best Telenovela; Elis – Viver é Melhor que Sonhar as Best TV Movie or Miniseries; and actress Andrea Beltrão competes for Best Actress for her role in the series Hebe.
In addition, the Netflix series Ninguém tá Olhando, produced by Gullane Entertainment, will seek to be Best Comedy; Raphael Logam competes for Best Actor for his work in The Walt Disney Company’s Impuros, season 2 (aired on Fox Premium); Record TV and Endemol Shine’s Sing With Me format is a finalist on Non-Scripted Entertainment; and the documentary Refavela 40 from HBO Brasil, on Arts Programming.
From the US Hispanic market, the finalists of the Non-English Language U.S. Primetime Program are the gala of the 20th Annual Latin Grammy® Awards, from Univision, and three fiction series from Telemundo Global Studios for Telemundo: No te puedes esconder (along with Netflix) and Prisoner No.1 (along with Keshet) and the second season of La reina del sur (along with Netflix, AG Studios Colombia, Diagonal TV and Argos).
Finally, the Colombian documentary by Caracol TV, El testigo, will seek to stand out among productions from the United Kingdom, South Korea and Belgium.
