The Brazilian SVOD service acquired more than 400 hours of scripted dramas from ITV Studios.

In a landmark deal, ITV Studios has signed a package of more than 400 hours of scripted content to GloboPlay, the Brazilian SVOD service owned by Grupo Globo which became the most used national streaming service during 2020.

The agreement, closed by Christina Covarrubias, Sales Director Lat Am and Hispanic US, sees Noughts + Crosses, the adaptation of Malorie Blackman’s award-winning young adult book series which aired on TV Globo earlier this month; the adrenalised, epic world war two drama World on Fire (7 x 60’) and both produced by Mammoth Screen for BBC One; as well as the character-driven relationship thriller Gold Digger from Mainstreet Pictures for BBC One all soon to be available on the service.

GloboPlay has also taken the complete three seasons of the critically acclaimed Victoria, the landmark account of the early years of one of Britain’s greatest queens, five seasons of the multi award-winning series Poldark, both produced by Mammoth Screen, all fourteen seasons of Murdoch Mysteries from Shaftesbury Films and three seasons of the Big Talk family comedy, Mum, making them available to binge from start to finish.

Additionally, GloboPlay acquires season one of the hit French drama Balthazar from Beaubourg Stories, the number two most-watched drama in France in 2020 and family drama Flesh and Blood from Silverprint Pictures.

Antonio Augusto Valente, Content Strategy Manager at GloboPlay said, “ITV has been a great provider of content to Globo’s Pay TV channels for years, so it was just natural we extended this relationship bringing their premium quality series to streaming at Globoplay. Our subscribers will be able to binge widely popular shows like Murdoch Mysteries as well as discover others as the beautiful and profound Mum.”

EVP Sales, Americas & EMEA, Greg Johnson, said “I’m delighted to see these best-of-British dramas find a home on the most popular national streaming service in Brazil. More than ever, people need high quality drama to escape to and the volume acquired underlines the versatility and appeal of our catalogue globally.”
