The Brazilian giant’s hit dramas will premiere in the US Hispanic market on Univision, following a licensing deal signed at Natpe.

During one of the main international events in the market, Natpe 2020, Globo and Univision announce the licensing deal of two hits in Brazil, Sweet Diva and Orphans of A Nation. The two titles are in the catalog that Globo is making available to the market this week.

“We are very happy with this partnership with such a relevant player in our sector. The licensing of these two titles, at the moment we are introducing the new products to the international market, strengthens our approximation to the Spanish-speaking audience in the United States and brings us another opportunity to show the Brazilian content and all of its strength”, comments Raphael Corrêa Netto, director of International Business at Globo.

“At Univision, we are excited to partner again with Globo to bring two internationally recognized productions to the Hispanic audience in the United States. With these acquisitions we continue to strengthen our commitment to offer diversified content of global success, and sophisticated and relevant formats for our audience”, said Jessica Rodriguez, executive director of marketing and president of Entertainment at Univision.

Written by Walcyr Carrasco, author of other hits from Globo like The Other Side of Paradise, Trail of Lies and Hidden Truths, and directed by Amora Mautner, the telenovela Sweet Diva conquered Brazilians with its striking story about the strength of a woman, Maria da Paz, (Juliana Paes, from Edge of Desire, Total Dreamer and India – A Love story) who wins almost everything in her life, except her daughter’s love. The story arrives at the international market after reaching 55 million Brazilian viewers only on its final episode broadcast in Brazil.

With a cast of renowned actors, the telenovela also introduced a new publicity method. Innovative commercial actions and the performance of the digital influencer Vivi Guedes (Paola Oliveira, from Edge of Desire and Trail of Lies) represented the new digital era for the production, transcending the TV screens and making its mark on social media. On its last episode, it had 48 hashtags among social media trending topics, and 19 of them were part of the Trending Topics in the World.

Awarded in the category Soaps or Telenovelas at the Rose D’Or Awards, ‘Orphans of A Nation’ portrays a great love story in the current context of refugees in the world. Written by the internationally awarded Duca Rachid and Thelma Guedes, winners of Best Telenovela at the International Emmy Awards for Precious Pearl’ and at the Banff World Television Festival for Cat’s Cradle, the forbidden love story between Jamil (Renato Góes, Dark Days and Old River) and Laila (Julia Dalavia, The Other Side of Paradise and Velho Chico) conquered the Brazilian audience.

The production, broadcast on Globo prime time, also counted on a technical partnership with ACNUR (the UN Refugee Agency in Brazil), assisting the teams and providing a real outlook on the people and stories represented on the plot.
