The Polish broadcaster is present at the event with a vast selection of new premieres, covering drama, thriller, espionage, medical, and more.

The sales team from Telewizja Polska (TVP), the largest public broadcaster in Poland, has made its way to NEM Dubrovnik to showcase some of the group’s newest productions, seeking to find new screens in the CEE region.

First off is Variola Vera, a series based on a true story from Poland during the smallpox pandemic. It follows Lucja Winter, an experienced intelligence officer, who returns from a top-secret assignment in India. Before her mission can be called a success, a smallpox epidemic breaks out in the city. Wrocław is sealed off from the world and a battle against the deadly virus begins. V

Variola Vera is a series in which a medical thriller meets spy intrigue. While a group of doctors led by the young and ambitious Weronika Przybysz fight a heroic battle against the disease, a local journalist Igor Bielik struggles to solve a mystery that could determine the fate of millions. It is a story of sacrifice and perseverance, but also of the growing need for freedom and truth, which proves to be more powerful than the fear of communist oppression.

“It’s a story with a political background, the story of a pandemic,” Anna Zielinska, Head of Foreign License Sales Department at TVP, said to ttvnews at the event in Croatia. “It’s a seven-episode miniseries,” she added.

In addition, the executive highlighted Proxy War, a 10-episode series that follows four newly recruited and talented future spies training under Sadowski, the newly appointed head of the State Security Authority. As the old order collapses, a dangerous scheme unfolds: Soviet General Dubynin plans to seize two nuclear warheads from Soviet units withdrawing from former Eastern Bloc territories.

“It’s the newest one,” she said. “It premiered in January on our channels. And Variola Vera premiered in autumn.”

“We also have a new crime series called Profiler, with two seasons already and third season coming this year,” she said. In Profiler, Julia Wigier, a renowned police profiler, is drawn into a brutal family murder case while on holiday. Season II takes her back to Gdynia to investigate her mother’s mysterious death, as a Warsaw task force hunts a dangerous serial killer who has escaped a mental institution.

The group is also showcasing Freddie. Little Chopin, about a 7-year-old boy living in modern-day Warsaw who hears the world as music. To him, every sound -from a broken vacuum cleaner to a creaky door- can become part of a colorful composition. Joined by his younger sister Emilka and his chaotic best friend Tytus, Freddie turns everyday problems into musical adventures.

Lastly, they’re presenting the miniseries Drelich, a pulse-pounding crime drama following Marek Drelich, a devoted father living a dangerous double life as an elite burglar. When a ruthless gangster threatens his family, Marek is forced to confront his past and fight for the people he loves.
