The international distributor will present two of the Portuguese broadcaster’s successful series, Heart & Soul and Water Mirror, at Mipcom in Cannes.

Eccho Rights has signed an exclusive worldwide representation agreement with Portugal’s leading broadcaster, SIC, a part of the Impresa Group.

The co-operation will include the two hit series Heart & Soul (Alma e Coração) and Water Mirror (Espelho d’Água). Both series are produced by SP Televisão.

“Portuguese TV dramas are very powerful productions with a strong global appeal. We are very honoured to represent SIC as they produce some of the country’s most successful long running series as the No1 channel in the country,” said Fredrik af Malmborg, Managing Director at Eccho Rights.

“International sales is becoming increasingly important in drama production, and series from Portugal have a long tradition of success, with multiple international awards and recognitions in recent years. We are impressed by the global organisation of Eccho Rights and this co-operation is a logical step to increase our international presence,” said Cristina Vaz Tomé, Chief Revenue Officer at Impresa.

Eccho Rights will launch Heart & Soul and Water Mirror for international sales at MIPCOM in Cannes this October.

Heart & Soul (2018-ongoing, 45 min x 300+ episodes) was nominated in three categories at last month’s Seoul International Drama Awards (Best Serial Drama, Best Screenwriter – Serial Drama, Best Actress – Serial Drama). Earlier this year, the series picked up an award at the 20th World Media Festival in Hamburg, and was nominated for the Rockie Awards at the 40th Banff World Media Festival.

Water Mirror (2017-18, 45 min x 327) has been nominated for a host of international drama awards, including Seoul International Drama Awards, Banff, and the New York Festivals TV & Film awards.
