Developed by Power Couple producers, Abot Hameiri, the format will be presented to buyers at Mipcom in Cannes.
Dori Media Group is bringing Abot Hameiri’s (Fremantle Israel) bold new relationship format New Love to the international TV marketplace ahead of Mipcom, it was announced today by Dori Media Group CEO Nadav Palti.
Abot Hameiri, the production house behind the hit global unscripted series Power Couple, has developed New Love, a format that puts four single women into accelerated 72-hour live-in situations with carefully selected strangers – moving past dating apps and manufactured first dates directly into the texture of daily life: waking up together, meeting friends and family, navigating real everyday moments. After 72 hours, each woman decides: continue for another round, or start again with someone new.
New Love, which was just named Reality Series of the Year by leading media outlet Israel Entertainment, skips straight to the relationship. No villa. No island. No bubble. 72 hours in real city life, with real grocery runs, family dinners and morning routines. The entire dating show genre is built on removing people from their lives to create drama. New Love does the opposite.
New Love has aired for five consecutive seasons on Reshet 13 in Israel as Ahava Hadasha, delivering ratings growth each season. Its fifth season grew the audience by 40% over its fourth, while the 25-to-34 demographic jumped 250% compared to season three. A sixth season is currently in pre-production.
“We are thrilled to bring Abot Hameiri’s New Love to the global TV marketplace,” said Dori Media Group’s Palti. “The numbers speak for themselves – five consecutive seasons of growth, and a format that has proven it can hook the younger demographic that every broadcaster is chasing.”
“Dating shows have been selling foreplay for 25 years, New Love sells the relationship,” said Roee Strikovski, CEO of Abot Hameiri (Fremantle Israel). “That’s the whole idea. We put four women straight into real life – 72 hours of actual daily life together, no filters, no isolation. Turns out, that’s where you actually find out if it works. Five seasons of Israeli audiences agree.”
New Love‘s 72-hour window creates urgency, but more importantly it removes the defense mechanisms people normally deploy when first dating. The couples are not locked in their apartments – they go on dates, spend time with the other couples and may meet each other’s friends or family.
By the time the decision arrives, both participants and viewers feel they’ve seen far more than a first date. They’ve had a glimpse of what an actual relationship between these two people might look like.
Dori Media previously announced that Power Couple has sold in more than 25 territories, including a first-ever 24/7 version that debuted this spring across Televisa/Univision’s platforms in the U.S. Hispanic market and Mexico. Additionally, Abot Hameiri and Dori Media’s game show The Auction recently launched on América Televisión in Peru and is now expanding to new territories globally.
