1. Two Ibero-American productions stand out among the The Wit fresh fiction selection
The consulting firm presented its selection of “freshest” fictions of the past season, a predominantly European list, where the main theme was crime and the retro feeling. Spanish series Parot, from RTVE, Amazon, Onza and VIS; and the Brazilian A Life to Die For, by Globo, were the only fictions selected from Ibero-America.
2. Zee Plus announced a co-production agreement with TBS in Japan
Zee Entertainment and TBS announced a new alliance under which they will co-produce various contents, including dramas, documentaries, formats, and films for the international market. The first project will be the travel program, The Spiceman Trails: Asia.
3. Beta Film and Fisher King to co-produce the drama Helsinki Syndrome
Scheduled to begin production in June of this year to premiere on Finnish broadcaster YLE, it is a modern thriller that anticipates the potential financial crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
4. WBITVP acquired for the Netherlands the adaptation rights to Sokkuri Sweets, from Nippon TV
Produced by BlazHoffski (owned by Warner Bros. International Television Production), the Dutch version of the format will be titled Showcolade and will premiere on public channel NPO1 on April 18. The format features celebrities trying to figure out, from a series of objects, which one is made of cake.
5. Cineflix Rights acquired the distribution rights to the Israeli drama Manayek
The international distributor is already presenting the new Israeli drama, produced by Yoav Gross Productions for Kan 11 channel, which follows Detective Izzy Bachar, who discovers that a high-ranking police officer heads a sprawling criminal network within the force.
6. Fremantle announced the purchase of Israeli producer Abot Hameiri
Fremantle increased its stake from 51% to 100% in the Tel Aviv-based production company, creator of original formats such as Power Couple, and local adaptations of Got Talent, Survivor or The X Factor.
7. AMC+ acquired the European drama Spy City for the US
Distributed by VIS Distribution Group, the drama will premiere on the streaming platform on April 15. Set in Berlin in 1961, at the height of the Cold War, the drama follows Fielding Scott, a spy sent by the British Secret Intelligence Service to root out a traitor who is revealing secrets to the Russians.
