The kids’ entertainment company will handle the global distribution of 280 episodes from the iconic franchise through a partnership with World Events Productions.

Kids’ content distributor and producer CAKE has announced a strategic partnership with World Events Productions (WEP) to oversee the international distribution of the Voltron catalogue, one of the most recognized animation and sci-fi franchises of the last four decades.

Under the agreement, CAKE will represent globally a library comprising 280 episodes from multiple iterations of the brand, with the aim of introducing the Voltron universe to new audiences and expanding its international footprint.

Originally adapted by WEP from the Japanese anime Beast King GoLion, the franchise achieved worldwide success with Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which premiered in 1984. The catalogue also includes Voltron: Golion (52×24’), Voltron: Dairugger XV (52×24’), the CGI animated series Voltron: The Third Dimension (26×24’), and Voltron Force (26×24’), which launched on Nicktoons in 2011.

The property continues to resonate with audiences across generations. According to the companies, Voltron generated more than 73 million social media mentions in 2025 and is entering a new phase of growth with the upcoming live-action feature film from Amazon MGM Studios, scheduled for release in spring 2027.

Voltron was one of my favorite shows growing up. The fact that it’s still generating this level of passion and cultural conversation forty years later speaks to the strength of the franchise,” said Ed Galton, CEO of CAKE. “We’re proud to be bringing this catalogue to a new generation of fans around the world.”

Bob Koplar, CEO of WEP, highlighted the international reach of the partnership. “Voltron has captivated audiences around the world for four decades, and we’re thrilled to partner with CAKE to bring the classic series to international broadcasters and platforms. We couldn’t ask for a better partner to introduce Voltron to a new generation of fans,” he said.

The upcoming live-action film will feature a cast led by Henry Cavill, Sterling K. Brown, Danniel Quinn-Toye, Rita Ora, and Samson Kayo. In addition, Hasbro will develop a new global toy line for the franchise, while other licensing and merchandising agreements are also in the works.
