For years, Telefilms and THR3 Media Group have been working on productions based on the life and most iconic characters of Roberto Gómez Bolaños, preparing to reintroduce to the world creations such as El Chavo or El Chapulín Colorado, recognized not only throughout Latam, but worldwide.
This year, Max will premiere Sin querer queriendo, the eight-part biographical film about the beloved Mexican comedian. And this Monday, during the first day of Mipcom in Cannes, Telefilms presented the world premiere of Los Colorados, a high-quality animation that works as a continuation of the story of El Chapulín Colorado, now with a new family.
The first season will have 20 episodes and will be divided into two parts.
“The IP is tremendously important, very rich. Roberto Gomez Bolaños created more than 100 characters. The most famous, those of La vecindad del Chavo and El Chapulín Colorado,” began Bruce Boren, CEO of THR3 Media Group, in a conversation with ttvnews during the event in Cannes.
“As everyone knows, we finished producing the Roberto Gomez Bolaños bioseries, and all his countless characters will be remembered there. But El Chapulín Colorado, as a superhero without super powers, so loved in Latam and so well-known and endearing, it was very important for us to do something very early with this character and send him back to the world, so that they remember him again, giving him a disruptive twist and trying to do something new with the character, presenting his family, but always respecting the original characters, like the villains who are spectacular,” he added.
Written and directed by brothers Rodolfo and Gabriel Riva Palacio, with their production company Huevocartoon Entertainment, the series follows the Chapulín family, which includes two children, his mother and a grandmother, as well as his famous rogues gallery.
“Huevocartoon is by far the most successful animation company on the continent, certainly in Mexico,” explained the CEO. “Both Gabriel and Rodolfo Riva Palacio, two super talented people and above all fans of El Chapulin Colorado. Their development and their production, the characters, the direction, the writing, they are a duo of unmatched talent and very capable of bringing Chapulín back to the screen.”
