The distributor has secured deals with Walter Presents in the US, SBS in Australia, Rai in Italy, RTVE in Spain, RÚV in Iceland and HOT in Israel. The six-part period drama, starring Fotinì Peluso, recorded more than 1.5 million views on ErtFlix during its first week.

Beta Film has announced a new round of international sales for The Great Chimera, the Greek period drama adapted from M. Karagatsis’ novel of the same name.

The six-part series has been acquired by Global Series Network (GSN) for Walter Presents in the United States, SBS in Australia, Rai in Italy, RTVE in Spain, RÚV in Iceland and HOT in Israel. According to the distributor, negotiations are ongoing for additional territories.

The six-hour adaptation set viewing records following its debut on ErtFlix, the streaming service of Greek public broadcaster ERT. Its first two episodes generated more than 1.5 million views over one week.

Italian actress Fotinì Peluso (Everything Calls for Salvation, Greek Salad) leads the cast as Marina, a young Italian woman fascinated by classical Greek culture who falls in love with Greek shipowner Yannis, played by Andreas Konstantinou (Milky Way, Cloudy Sunday).

The couple starts a new life on the island of Syros, but Marina faces growing inner conflicts and the social expectations of her new surroundings. When she falls in love with Yannis’ brother Minas, played by Dimitris Kitsos (The Beach, Maestro in Blue), she finds herself caught in a tragedy shaped by passion and personal contradictions.

The Great Chimera is directed by Vardis Marinakis (Silent Road, Zizotek, Black Field), with cinematography by Giorgos Valsamis (American Girl, Milky Way) and scripts by Panagiotis Iosifelis (The Beach).

The series is produced by Foss Productions (I’m Glad You Are Dead Now, Maestro in Blue, Arcadia, Milky Way, The Beach), in coproduction with ERT, Mompracem, Boo Productions and Beta Film, which also handles international sales.

The Great Chimera is supported by EkkoMed Creative Greece.
