ITV Studios announced an agreement with Atresmedia, which will adapt the successful format in Spain together with Boomerang.
Since its revival in 2015 via ITV in England, Love Island has become one of the most in-demand formats in the global industry, with multiple international adaptations including in the US, Australia, Germany and Sweden.
And now Spain will join that list, as announced this Tuesday by ITV Studios, distributor of the format.
As revealed, the show was acquired in Spain by Atresmedia, which will adapt it together with local production company Boomerang TV. It will be its first version in Spanish.
The format follows a group of singles in search of love, who are reunited on a tropical island. It is an ideal competitor for The Island of Temptations, which achieved an unexpected success in the last television season in Spain and which has already been renewed for a second season.
In total, Love Island has already been sold in 17 international territories, including Nigeria, where the format has just been sold also thanks to an agreement with Digital Play.
Both announcements were made accompanied by new adaptations of The Voice Senior in Italy (RAI Uno) and Brazil (Globo) and the commission of Beat The Chasers (MTV3), spin-off of The Chase, in Finland; and the sale of The Chase in Australia (Seven).
“At ITV Studios we have a large number of powerful and iconic formats. Our partners know where to find us and together we are able to drive our great brands in their local markets,” said Maarten Meijs, President of Global Entertainment at ITV Studios.
