At its Prime Video Presents Mexico event, the global streaming service confirmed its big plans for the country, which include new original titles and ambitious production goals.

Amazon held its Prime Video Presents Mexico event on Tuesday, in virtual format from Mexico City, where executives, actors and creators participated to share the most recent titles and new seasons that join the list of Amazon Originals for the country.

The platform took the occasion to confirm a series of announcements referring to new local original content, and its production plans in the country.

Among the titles that were shared, there is a new documentary series following the Chivas de Guadalajara soccer club, and new seasons of the acclaimed series Pan y Circo, and the comedy LOL: Last One Laughing.

In addition, Amazon revealed that it plans to green light up to 15 new original and local series, and 5 original and local films annually, within the next three to five years in Mexico.

The news comes at the same time as Netflix’a announcement, which has plans to invest US $ 300 million in Mexico in 2021.

On the other hand, Amazon also announced that it is allocating more than US $ 2.65 million in donations to Covid-19 funds to support the recovery of the TV, film and theater production community in Mexico and in other countries in Latin America where the company is developing local and original content.

“Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Studios work closely with organizations in each country that are committed to supporting the community and group of audiovisual professionals,” they assured. Donations will be completed in the first half of this year.

Jen Salke, who heads Amazon Studios, said: “Since Prime Video was launched around the world, Amazon has remained focused on providing customers with local series powered by the best local voices.”

“Mexico has one of the most abundant creative communities in the world, driven by talented local writers, directors, producers, and actors throughout the country. We couldn’t be more excited to bring new and returning Amazon Originals to our customers across the country, as well as bringing these stories to a global audience,” she added.
