Fiction Line-Up

New from Two Brothers Pictures (The Tourist), Maya is a propulsive psychological thriller created and co-directed by Back to Life’s Daisy Haggard. She also co-leads the series alongside Golden-Globe and Emmy-nominee The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey. Exploring themes of predatory male behaviour, family and the unbreakable bond between a mother and daughter, the 6 x 1 hr drama for Channel 4, UK, centres on a fiercely devoted single mother (Haggard) and her headstrong teenage daughter (Ramsey) who are forced into witness protection. As they attempt to rebuild their lives in rural Scotland, it becomes clear the dangerous figure they are running from is still a looming threat.

Fresh, stylish legal drama Counsels (8 x 1 hr) co-created by Skins creator Bryan is Elsley and Gillian McCormack breaks away from traditional courtroom dramas, following the lives of twenty-something lawyers in Glasgow who, years after training together, are at the crucial moment in their careers. Whether working as public prosecutors, representing of glossier commercial interests, or the good-hearted last resort of those with nothing left to lose, each of them is out to win. As they face their biggest professional and personal challenges yet, relationships are tested- and things are going to catch fire. The latest drama from multi-award-winning screenwriter George Kay (Hijack, The Long Shadow) Gone is a gripping psychological mystery from New Pictures and Observatory Pictures interrogating trauma, trust, privilege and prejudice. Recently launching in the UK to widespread acclaim and smash hit ratings, the series is set against the backdrop of a prestigious private school, the six-part series stars The Long Shadow’s David Morrissey as Michael Polly, a respected headmaster whose well-ordered life collapses when his wife, Sarah, disappears. Assigned to the case is Detective Annie Cassidy (Eve Myles), a sharp, instinctive investigator. Careless (4 x 1 hour) is a bold and propulsive thriller from Synchronicity (The Tattooist of Auschwitz) and Easy Tiger (Colin From Accounts) for Stan, Australia and Channel 4, UK, interrogating power, intimacy and trust.  Set between Sydney and Glasgow the series showcases the talents of rising star Solly McLeod (House of the Dragon), Robyn Malcolm (After The Party), Katie Leung (Bridgerton) and Richard Roxburgh (Rake). When Scottish backpacker Robbie (Solly McLeod) arrives in Sydney, he is determined to secure work as a live-in carer for notorious rock’n’roll legend Mike (Richard Roxburgh), recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Suspenseful, timely and cinematic, Secret Service (5 x 1 hr) is a sophisticated espionage thriller from Potboiler Productions for ITV, UK. Directed by Oscar winner James Marsh (Man on Wire) and adapted from the novel by ITV News anchor Tom Bradby, this fast-paced, globe-trotting series stars Gemma Arterton as a senior MI6 officer in a desperate race to uncover evidence that a high-ranking UK politician may be working as a Russian asset. The star-studded cast also includes Rafe Spall, Mark Stanley, Alex Kingston, Roger Allam, Amaka Okafur and Khalid Abdalla.

Documentary Line-up

Leading All3Media International’s documentary line-up is Michael Jackson: The Trial (4 x 1 hr) from the BAFTA and RTS-nominated team behind Evacuation, Wonderhood Studios. Featuring unseen footage, unheard audio tapes of Michael Jackson and exclusive interviews, it tells the incredible, inside story of how the King of Pop was put on trial in 2005 for the alleged sexual molestation of a young boy.  Drawing on this rich archive and vivid testimony, the series steps beyond the media circus of “the trial of the century” to ask profound questions about fame, race, and the American justice system. Adaptation rights to Studio Lambert’s bold reality format Rise and Fall are available across the region. A game of wealth and privilege, strategy and survival, recently adapted into a ratings-winning celebrity version for Amazon MX Player in India and now been commissioned for a second season. It sees a diverse group of contestants taking part in a social experiment that asks how wealth and power shape the way we behave toward one another.

Finally, the global phenomenon The Traitors will take centre stage. Recently, 40 territories were revealed to be developing their own local versions of IDTV’s hit reality format, including Brazil, Mexico, India, and Turkey. Alongside these new adaptations, multiple territories continue to commission returning seasons including the Emmy-winning US version for NBC and the BAFTA-winning UK version on the BBC, highlighting the show’s continued international trajectory.
