The international distributor has sold dramas Conspiracy of Silence, Maria Wern and Honour to bTV Media Group.
Eccho Rights has closed a deal with bTV Media Group in Bulgaria for a package of series hailing from Sweden, including dramatic thriller Conspiracy of Silence, long-running crime series Maria Wern and female-led drama Honour.
With a second season already in production, highly successful drama Honour broke viewing records for Scandinavian streaming platform Viaplay when it premiered last August.
It follows four talented female lawyers defending those who are often overlooked by society: victims of abuse or woman that were forced into prostitution. But when a secret from their past threatens everything they have worked so hard to build, their friendship is put to the test.
Acclaimed Swedish actress Sofia Helin developed the series together with Alexandra Rapaport, Julia Dufvenius and Anja Lundqvist who also star. The series is produced by Stockholm-based production company Bigster (co-headed by Rapaport).
One of the most successful Swedish crime series, Maria Wern tells the story of a big city detective who starts a new in the quiet and idyllic island of Gotland to get away from personal tragedies. However big city cases seem to follow Maria from Stockholm, and a series of high-profile murder cases make it difficult for her to change her pace of life. As well as her police work, Maria must battle with the various stresses of her personal life; raising her family alone, grieving for her lost husband, and dealing with the advances, both welcome and otherwise, of new love interests.
Produced by Warner Bros. the series has achieved stellar results on TV4 during its seven seasons.
Directed by Charlotte Brändström, known around the world for her work on acclaimed series such as Outlander, gripping thriller series Conspiracy of Silence centers on a former weapons dealer forced into exile, who returns to Sweden on a quest for vengeance. The story highlights both the shattered personal lives that the weapons business leaves in its wake, and the moral hypocrisy that allows the trade to flourish.
The series premiered on Viaplay in September 2018 and is produced by Brain Academy.
“Scandi drama continues to enjoy enormous popularity around the world and we are very content to bring these outstanding titles to Bulgaria. The Balkans are very interesting for us not only in terms of sales but also looking at the developments in original programming from the region”, says Nicola Söderlund, Managing Partner at Eccho Rights.
