With a solid track record in scripted programming and an increasingly diverse portfolio in entertainment, factual programming, and new digital formats, the Spanish giant is arriving at a new edition of LA Screenings with an ambitious content offering that demonstrates the power of the Atresmedia productions’ quality seal.
Internationally recognized for the quality of its original Spanish scripted series, Atresmedia Sales boasts an enviable catalog of titles, with recent scripted hits such as Las hijas de la criada (The Maid’s Daughters), La nena (The Girl), Sueños de libertad (Dreams of Freedom), Padre no hay más que uno (Father There Is Only One), and Entre tierras (Between Lands), to name a few.
In addition to an unscripted catalog that combines innovative original entertainment programs and local adaptations of popular international formats; documentaries, docuseries, and true-crime titles; as well as a strong commitment to new formats such as short-form and vertical series, which keep the Spanish group at the forefront of the latest content trends.
In the following interview with ttvnews, Miguel García, International Sales Director at Atresmedia Sales, goes over the keys to the Spanish group’s success, previews its premieres and new releases for LA Screenings 2026, and analyzes how the company remains at the forefront of a constantly evolving industry.
To what do you attribute the success and high quality of Atresmedia’s original productions?
Our secret to success is the quality of our productions and the originality of the stories they tell. We have experimented and triumphed with all kinds of genres and formats, producing franchises that everyone remembers, such as The Time in Between, No One Lives Here, and The Boat. This has made us the leading Spanish media group and the largest content producer year after year.
For decades, this same formula for success has made our series and documentaries incredibly appealing internationally and successful with both audiences and critics, receiving numerous awards and impressive viewership figures. The Atresmedia Series label is established as a guarantee of success for anyone who wants to program content in Spanish anywhere in the world.
What productions are you currently working on? What new projects do you have planned for this year?
Atresmedia is in the midst of producing three major exclusive series, which will premiere this year on Atresplayer Spain and in the coming months on our free-to-air TV channel, Antena 3.
These are Ágata y Lola, the Spanish adaptation of the French format that inspired Bright Minds. This eight-episode police procedural, produced in collaboration with Portocabo, will premiere very soon. A la Deriva, an eight-episode drama produced with Buendía Estudios and Boomerang TV, tells the story of five fishermen who returned to their village after being presumed dead following a shipwreck months earlier. And Trazos Ocultos, a six-episode domestic thriller produced by Buendía Estudios Canarias and Atresmedia TV, starring Toni Acosta and Rodolfo Sancho. It tells the story of Inés, who discovers her husband is leading a double life and will fight to uncover it. A series that follows the same style as previous hits like Mentiras and Ángela.
Furthermore, after the success of the first seasons, we are also producing the second seasons of What Are You Waiting For? and Física o Química, Nueva Generación, which will premiere in late 2026 or early 2027 in Spain.
In addition to its scripted series, Atresmedia is also heavily invested in entertainment formats. What is the strategy behind mixing original productions with acquisitions?
Our content offering is very diverse, both in our broadcasts and programming on our linear TV channels, Antena 3 and La Sexta, and in our catalog of international sales.
Atresmedia has always been committed to combining the adaptation of major internationally successful formats with the creation and production of its own formats that have been running for many years and seasons, such as El Desafío, El Hormiguero, and El Camino a Casa. The latter two have made headlines for their adaptations in Argentina, with Telefé and Olga; while El Desafío continues to operate as a syndicated program, its six Spanish editions have been licensed and broadcast in Central America, Ecuador, and Uruguay. A resounding success.
In addition to fiction, we are also investing heavily in standalone documentaries, docuseries, and factual programs. In this regard, we have put together an interesting slate of content related to true crime. Our stories, just like our fiction, are highly original and impactful, with great international potential, hence the worldwide success of El Depredador de Sevilla, a 3-episode docuseries produced by Atresmedia in collaboration with Newtral.
Atresmedia has also invested heavily in digital, with original productions for Atresplayer and Flooxer, even venturing into new formats such as short-form and vertical content. What do you think is the importance of always staying one step ahead of market trends?
We work in a constantly evolving industry that must adapt to new generations and consumption habits, so if we want to remain leaders, we can’t afford to fall behind. Atresmedia has always been at the forefront of digital content; it’s worth remembering that we were the first to create a Spanish-made SVOD platform, Atresplayer, which continues to grow and establish itself as the local hero the Spanish industry needs. Since then, we’ve been producing series and short-form programs like the award-winning Rabia and the Emmy-nominated Gente Hablando.
But we haven’t stopped there, and since the end of 2025 we’ve also started producing vertical series. After the successful premiere of Una novia por navidad, we’re already putting together a whole slate of content in that format, mixing new series with adaptations of other proven short-form content.
Which would you say are the biggest stars of your current catalog, and what titles will you be presenting at the new edition of LA Screenings?
The lineup for this LA Screenings market is very broad and varied, including the latest productions from Atresmedia.
We want to highlight The Maid’s Daughters, the adaptation of the successful novel by Sonsoles Ónega, winner of the 2023 Planeta Prize. An 8-episode drama produced by Buendia Estudios and Atresmedia, it tells the story of two families, the marquesses and the maid, whose lives are completely changed after a baby swap.
We also have the recent and powerful premiere of The Girl, the third adaptation of the successful saga written by Carmen Mola, La Novia Gitana (The Gypsy Bride). The plot begins months after the events of La Red Púrpura (The Purple Network), and follows Mariajo, who comes out of retirement to fight the Network for everything that was taken from her.
And as a major new release, 33 Días (33 Days), a 6-episode series produced in collaboration with Goroka, True Crime Factory, and Luminol, which fictionalizes the escape of two prisoners from a Lleida jail during which they terrorized the region for over a month.
