The successful Turkish series Love For Rent, distributed by Atlas Media, is preparing to travel throughout Latin America. Göksu Akgün, Managing Director of Atlas Media, commented to ttvnews during Mipcom that the series began its journey to Latam through Chile, and now TelevisaUnivision is preparing the remake. “We’re looking forward to seeing it as a Latin American production,” he said.
“Love For Rent is a summer production. In Turkey we have summer and seasonal productions, so it was a great surprise that it was so successful. At first, the protagonists of the story, Baris Arduç and Elçin Sangu, were not popular, but the gamble went quite well, and the series started to be distributed across many territories, although in Latin America, it was not distributed properly yet,” Akgün said.
Love For Rent‘s journey began with Chile. “It got very high ratings, so we kept distributing. TelevisaUnivision, was interested in adapting the story. So we agreed with them to get the rights to the remake, and now the production is finished,” he noted.
Interest in co-production in Latam
Inanc Vardar, Managing Partner of Atlas Media, commented that they have entered the production arena in addition to the distribution of successful titles. “We focus on co-production, especially with the Middle East, and last year we successfully produced three digital series. We want to expand this cooperation with Latin American countries because, as my partner mentioned, Latin America is a significant market for us,” he stressed.
According to Vardar, they are convinced there are more opportunities in Latam for distribution and expansion of productions. “There is great demand for Turkish content, and we know they have opportunities for success,” he concluded.
