The Canary Islands company Krakatoa, owned by Víctor López, creator of hits like Pocoyó, Jelly, and Cleo and Cuquin, attended Mipcom to present Plim Plim, a brand they have been working on in partnership with its creators from Smilehood for over six months. They arrived in Cannes to impress the industry with incredible audience numbers and the immense potential of El Payaso Plim Plim.
Víctor López, CEO of Krakatoa, told ttvnews that “the experience with Plim Plim in Cannes has been exceptional. We present a project well-known to the public but very little known to the industry, which is paradoxical. Plim Plim has 34 million subscribers and 1.1 billion views in the last month. Most of the industry doesn’t know about it, so it’s very gratifying to present it and share the data. The feedback has been very positive, with great potential and great interest,” he said.
According to López, what happens with Plim Plim reaffirms that the audience is more important than anything else. “In the end, a property like Plim Plim has an audience and is a guarantee that it will work on any platform. We will start announcing deals beyond those we already have with TV Cultura and TV Azteca in the coming months. There is enormous development happening not only on the audiovisual side but also in licensing,” the CEO of Krakatoa assured.
Right now, Plim Plim has produced 350 music videos in at least three complete languages: Portuguese, Spanish, and English, and it is being translated into Italian, Indonesian, and Russian. “That’s what is already produced musically. There are 60 episodes of seven minutes each where Plim Plim originated, which aired on Disney Channel in Latin America with outstanding ratings.”
López revealed that they are preparing more content for YouTube and content for television and platform premieres. “We are planning 26 or 52 five-minute episodes that we hope to have ready by Kidscreen, where we will present a bible and a teaser with improvements, thanks to the collaboration of Argentine and American screenwriters. I think this combination will be fantastic for the brand,” he assured.
New Projects
In addition to this, Krakatoa is working on a preschool project that will be part of the partnership with Smilehood. This project will be presented before the end of the year and is a developed IP currently being negotiated for acquisition.
“Next, we are working on an animation project for young people, adults, and teens. This is a project we will present in the middle of next year, and instead of working on a bible and a teaser, as projects are typically presented in the market, we are working on a comic and a teaser, which we find much more fun,” López concluded.
