Turner Latin America has acquired the rights to Turkish series A Miracle and The Choice for multiple platforms in Latin America. In addition, it revealed the star of its series Las Bravas F.C., coproduced with The Mediapro Studio.
Present at Natpe Miami, Turner Latin America and Madd Entertainment announced a deal through which the WarnerMedia company will distribute Turkish dramas A Miracle and The Choice.
The series will thus become the first Turkish dramas to air on pay TV in Latin America.
In regard to A Miracle, the drama based on the Korean format A Good Doctor, Turner acquired the rights for its pay TV networks in Latin America, SVOD and its Chilean broadcast network, Chilevision.
Turner will also have broadcasting rights for The Choice on its pay TV networks and SVOD across Latin America (outside Puerto Rico), broadcast TV rights in Chile and sub-licences across the territory.
“We hope this deal between Turner and Madd/AyYapim/MedYapim will be the first of many titles and projects,” said Tomás Yankelevich, EVP & Chief Content Officer, General Entertainment at Turner Latin America.
And added: “Turkish dramas have worked very well in the region thanks to the quality of their productions and the solidity of their stories. For that reason we are betting on A Miracle for Latin America, the series that’s currently beating audience records in Turkey, and the new title The Choice, starring Halit Ergenç, protagonist of series like 1001 Nights and El Sultan”.
“We are very happy to finalize this first agreement with Turner. This represents a novelty for the distribution of Turkish dramas in Latin America. A Miracle, the new title this season produced by MF Yapim, and The Choice, produced by Ay Yapim, will be the first to be broadcast on a pay TV platform,” said Ates Ince, Managing Director, Madd Entertainment.
A Miracle is currently marking a record audience performance in Turkey. It tells the story of Ali, a brilliant medical school graduate with autism, his struggles and the challenges he must overcome to achieve his dream: to become a surgeon.
The Choice, meanwhile, is a new title about the life of Irfan (Halit Ergenç), a professor of economics at the university, whose reality changes abruptly when he loses his job and his son gets sick. Seeking to help his child, he will embark on a dark adventure that will present challenges he had never imagined.
LAS BRAVAS FC ALREADY HAS A PROTAGONIST
Also during Natpe’s first day, Turner Latin America offered news for Las Bravas F.C., its next original series co-produced with The Mediapro Studio.
The fiction set in the world of women’s football will star Mexican actor Alfonso Herrera (Sense 8, El Dandy).
Las Bravas F.C., with 8 episodes of 45 minutes, will begin filming in March and will be released this year by TNT Mexico.
The series is based on an idea by Enrique Pérez Vergara, “Flipy” (Noobees, Chiringuito de Pepe, Olmos and Robles). It revolves around a modest women’s soccer team from a small Mexican town to tell a story of overcoming, where the values of teamwork and the roots of its protagonists determine their relationships.
Las Bravas Fútbol Club’s dream is to win the regional women’s soccer championship. But getting it will not be easy. They will need the support of a professional coach, work that will fall to the former former player Roberto Casas (Alfonso Herrera). Forced to leave the field because of a heart condition and with a certain air of fallen idol, Casas will accept work because of a bet, which will force him to overcome his prejudices because he does not consider women’s football a sport.
Hence the double challenge of overcoming the series, that of the players for conquering their dream and that of Casas for adapting to their new reality, returning to their origins and facing the new challenge that lies ahead.
