In the following interview with ttvnews, Pedro Lascurain, Director of Acquisitions at TV Azteca, shares what content they want to add to their catalog in the international market.

In an industry as dynamic as the entertainment industry, it is essential to stay one step ahead of the latest trends and understand what the international market demands in terms of content.

To this end, ttvnews presents the Buyers: What are buyers looking for? initiative to learn first-hand about the programming needs of buyers around the world.

This time, we spoke to Pedro Lascurain, Director of Acquisitions at TV Azteca:

What content would you highlight among those that worked best for the company in 2024?

In 2024, it is definitely working for us, it was working for us and to date it continues to work, are the series that we are producing in telenovela style. They have been a lot of drama and comedy, mainly, which have been the best ratings we have had on Channel 1, which is the most important channel for us, being the family channel.

The Disney product for Televisión Azteca has been of great importance, particularly for Channel 7, as their movies, both for youth and children, have been very successful. All the movies that have been shown in theaters have been very successful on broadcast television, especially the one that is very much related to Mexico, the movie Coco. It’s an excellent film for us. For Mexico, this film is particularly important due to our Day of the Dead traditions.

However, The Lion King, along with other Disney movies, has also joined forces with 20th Century Fox. Well, those are movies and series that have been number one for us.

From there, we can say that we go with the other studios, like Warner, like Universal, Paramount, Sony, they have been the studios with which 75-80% of our budget goes with them.

Additionally, we also work with some distributors of independent products, but primarily with those that specialize in films, action, suspense, and thrillers, as these genres work best for us.

What type of content is most in demand by your audience today?

We have also contacted other companies, such as Endemol and Fremantle Media. We are buying some game shows from them. Like MasterChef, which works wonderfully well for us. Additionally, they refer to it in Mexico as Cien Mexicanos. It’s Family Feud in English.

We have a partnership with a Turkish company, Acun Medya. We also do some Exatlon, which works very well for us.

What kind of content, formats, or genres are you going for at industry events?

We are really happy to be producing with good companies. And above all, what I am most dedicated to, along with my team, is to look for movies, series, cartoons.

We also have a good number of cartoons for the mornings on Channel 7 and the weekends.

That’s my main goal, which involves constantly searching for the best product available on the market for TV Azteca.
