TTV+ Buyers: What Are Buyers Looking For?

In the following interview with ttvnews, Alexander Pérez, Director of Content and Acquisitions at Novazul Entertainment, shares what content they want to add to their catalog in the international market.

In an industry as evolving as the entertainment industry, it is imperative to stay one step ahead of the latest trends and know what the international market demands regarding content.

To this end, ttvnews presents the Buyers: What are buyers looking for? initiative to learn first-hand about the programming needs of buyers around the world.

This time, we spoke to Alexander Pérez, Director of Content and Acquisitions at Novazul Entertainment:

What content would you highlight among the ones that worked best for the company in 2024?

Something that we are doing experimentally is to propose content according to the target of the schedule, which is something that rarely happens; it is very empirical and very feeling, but we understand that there is a science behind it.

I have a very traditional market where they try to maintain the status that works, especially in movies, which is our strong suit. In the Dominican Republic, movies are still profitable, they still have a lot of ratings, and there is a good bet on everything related to this programming.

Last year, we worked on 60% of action movies; the other 40% was divided between telenovelas, family movies, and humor. We also work with classic telenovelas in some American series, and this year, we are looking to expand into Turkish dramas.

What content, formats, or genres do you go for at industry events?

My main strategic partner is Disney because it came with the Fox contract 10 years ago. We also have Paramount and CBS; with them, we have a very good partnership, and they are my leading suppliers of films at the majors level.

But on the distributor level, I have very good agreements with Polar Star, with the Kargauer family, and Diego Kargauer. Also, Jimmy Van der Heyden from CDC, very dear people that we have made good business and better friendship over the years. Besides, Alejandro Carballo from Telefilms.

Right now, our main commercial partners are Disney, Paramount, Polar, CDC, Caracol, and RCN; with them, we had two telenovelas last year, and they were excellent.

Are there any trends you are following closely within the market?

FAST is going to experience incredible growth. I understand that there are very good opportunities to grow. I also see a lot of interest in reality shows locally. I think this will be a very interesting year for the Dominican Republic with reality shows.
