On Tuesday, November 17, during day one of MipCancun Online+, The Wit hosted its traditional Fresh TV Fiction conference virtually, to present the main trends that marked the year in terms of fiction series in the region and its selection of most remarkable titles.
Virginia Mouseler, CEO of the consultancy firm, began the talk by presenting the two trends that shone in Latin America in 2020: “This year, scripted formats are stronger in Latin America than the rest of the world. It was the same last year and it’s confirmed this year,” she said.
In this regard, the CEO explained that while scripted formats represent 4% of the scripted shows launched worldwide this year, the percentage is double in Latin America.
“This year we had seven scripted formats launched in Latin America. And among those, four were in Mexico. And out of the three in Mexico, three came from Chile,” she added.
The second main trend, she explained, featured Turkish drama’s continued success in the global market. “Second, Turkish scripted formats and series conquered new territories,” she said.
