The Portuguese production competes at the New York Festivals – TV & Film Awards in the Streaming Drama category.

The Medalists, an original by OPTO, SIC’s streaming platform, and produced by SP Televisão, has been nominated for the prestigious New York Festivals – TV & Film Awards in the Streaming Drama category. This recognition highlights this title on the international audiovisual scene, reinforcing the quality and relevance of Portuguese series.

The Medalists is the only Portuguese television and streaming production to be included in this year’s shortlist and joins the list of OPTO titles that have been recognized in these awards, such as The General, The Good Girls Club, Lucia of Fatima and PRAXX.

The series explores the competitive world behind the scenes of sport, following a group of young athletes in a High-Performance Academy. The main cast features Joana Cravo, João Maneira, João Bettencourt and Paula Magalhães, as well as renowned actors such as Paula Lobo Antunes, Luís Esparteiro and Custódia Gallego.

The first season of The Medalists, with 26 episodes, premiered on Opto in December 2023 and was later released on Prime Video, in 2024, expanding the international reach of this Portuguese production.

This event honors the world’s best television and film productions every year, with a Grand Jury panel of more than 200 industry experts from over 30 countries. The winners will be announced at the Storytellers Gala, a virtual event that will take place on 22nd May.

The Medalists is available on OPTO, SIC’s streaming platform, and Prime Video.
