The president of RTVE, José Manuel Pérez Tornero, announced during the Ibero-American Forum of Audiovisual Public Service the creation of Hispavisión together with other public channels in Ibero-America.
The president of Radiotelevisión Española José Manuel Pérez Tornero has closed this Wednesday at the headquarters of the Cervantes Institute in Madrid the I Ibero-American Forum of Audiovisual Public Service, organized by the Corporation with the collaboration of the Association of Ibero-American Educational and Cultural Televisions (ATEI) .
And the main news to come out of the event was the announcement of the creation of Hispavisión, a music festival similar to Eurovision in which all countries united by the Spanish language can participate.
As he explained, a working group has already been formed, and the first edition will take place next year, with Portugal and Brazil as guest countries.
“The determination to do so arises from the Benidorm Fest, due to the importance of summoning young people and their creativity, which awakens the will to unite and strengthen our common culture,” said Pérez Tornero.
Organized by RTVE, the Benidorm Fest was the great television revelation of recent months in Spain in terms of ratings and impact on popular culture. The festival served to elect the representative of Spain in Eurovision.
In Ibero-America, a similar festival already existed in the past, the Ibero-American Song Grand Prix, known as the OTI Festival. It stopped taking place in 2000.
