The hit true crime talk show CDI: Código de Investigación, co-produced by Univision Entertainment and 360 Powwow, crosses borders with deals in Europe and Latin America.
TelevisaUnivision’s innovative crime talk show CDI: Código de Investigación has secured format deals in three European markets and closed tape sales across five Latin American territories following its breakout US performance.
The format marks the first live true crime talk show created for Hispanic audiences, hosted by Spanish news anchor, Borja Voces. In Spain, the format has been optioned by Mediacrest, while in Central and Eastern Europe, it has been optioned with one local production currently in development. In Latin America, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua have acquired the Miami-produced US series.
Each episode showcases past criminal cases with historical analysis and live updates, including exclusive interviews, expert commentary, and cutting-edge forensic technology. Co-produced by Univision Entertainment and 360 Powwow, CDI uses live studio investigation with expert criminologists, real-time analysis, and exclusive interviews, creating groundbreaking and interactive elements that differ from pre-recorded documentary crime programming.
Univision has greenlit a second season following a strong first-season performance. The new season expands the crime scope from murders to kidnappings, cults, fraud, human negligence, and cybercrime. Recent and notable cases covered Liam Payne, Jeffrey Epstein, P. Diddy, the Central Park 5, the Louvre heist, and the Jet Set collapse in the Dominican Republic.
“Código de Investigación was a breakthrough in MIPCOM and has garnered international attention from clients. With this genre on the rise, broadcasters aim to target true crime fans while bringing a fresh twist to their FTA programming schedules,” said Guillermo Borensztein, senior vice president of international content licensing at TelevisaUnivision.
Jaime Acero, senior director of Content Development and Non-Scripted at TelevisaUnivision, said, “The live true crime talk show creates must-see TV, and our retention week-to-week has been exceptional. It’s attracting younger Hispanic viewers while maintaining broad appeal, and production costs are lower than investigative documentaries.”
The agreement further supports TelevisaUnivision’s global expansion and leadership in producing and distributing Spanish-language content, delivering iconic, high-performing stories to audiences worldwide.
