The group now has the pay TV and VOD rights in the region for all 218 episodes of the series.
Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has licensed Seasons 9 and 10 (55 x 45’) of ZDF Studios’ long-running medical drama series Betty’s Call for LatAm, which has become a fan favourite on their Pay TV and VOD services.
Having previously bought the first 8 seasons, SPT now has the Pay TV and VOD rights in the region for all 218 episodes.
Produced by ZDF Studios’ subsidiary Network Movie and commissioned by ZDF, Betty’s Call marks the first LATAM collaboration between the German distributor and SPT.
A heartwarming and humorous medical series that looks at hospital life from the nurse’s point of view, the drama focuses on Nurse Betty who works in a big city hospital. She knows that 4.5 minutes is the statistical average time a nurse is to spend with a patient. But she also knows that her unshakable common sense will keep tripping up her carefully planned schedule, just long enough to give a frightened patient or a young colleague an encouraging smile.
Susanne Frank, Director Drama for ZDF Studios, said: “It’s wonderful to see LATAM viewers embracing Betty’s Call, a delightful series that balances the seriousness of hospital life with uplifting humour. Sony Pictures Television is a long-standing and close partner of ours and we are very pleased with the good cooperation. Together we are exploring our catalogue for other long-running, family-friendly dramas that will equally appeal to audiences in the region.”
ZDF Studios has previously sold Betty’s Call to Austria, Switzerland, Estonia, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa as well as major streamers such as Amazon, Apple, Joyn and RTL+.
