The ICEX-Invest in Spain brand intensifies its presence in markets and festivals to position Spain among the media industry’s elite.
Shooting in Spain, the ICEX-Invest in Spain brand to promote the attraction of foreign filming and investment in the media sector to Spain, is facing the last quarter of the year with an intense work schedule that includes attending and organizing activities in almost a dozen markets and festivals around the world, where it will continue to promote the Spanish audiovisual sector and establish contact with potential investors.
After attending the Toronto and San Sebastian International Film Festivals last month, with the participation of ICEX-Invest in Spain representatives in various presentations and panels, Shooting in Spain will also be present next week at Iberseries & Platino Industria (Madrid, 1 to 4 October).
During the event, in addition to participating in the Financing Breakfast held during the US Day, which seeks to promote networking with US financial funds, the new Foreign Project Management Director at ICEX-Invest in Spain, Vanesa Álvarez, will take part in a specific panel on tax incentives organized by FIPCA (Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers).
At the end of this month, the Shooting in Spain team will attend Mipcom (Cannes, 21 to 24 October), the world’s largest market dedicated to television content, to complement the extensive program of activities that will celebrate Spain as Country of Honor at this year’s edition.
Among the main initiatives of ICEX-Invest in Spain, three daily sessions have been organized for international producers and commissioners to provide first-hand information about the Spain Audiovisual Bureau, the one-stop shop for all inquiries from foreign companies interested in filming or opening their headquarters in Spain.
Furthermore, it will co-organize in collaboration with Audiovisual from Spain the panel ‘Spain: Igniting Global Hits – The Ultimate Audiovisual Hub’ (Tuesday 22nd at 9:45am in the Producers’ Hub) which will mainly address aspects of financing and tax incentives through the production models of two upcoming international dramas.
Weiss & Morales, a Spanish-German co-production, with the participation of Nina Hernández, head of content of Portocabo, and a spokesperson from ZDF Studios; and the French series Zorro, with the participation of Marc Dujardin, producer of Le Collectif 64, and Mike Villanueva, representative of the Castilla-La Mancha Film Commission. The latter, co-produced by France Télévisions and Paramount+, premiered on 6 September in France, Italy, and the United Kingdom, and is an outstanding example of international filming in Spain. This double case study will be moderated by Nekesa Mumbi Moody, co-editor-in-chief of The Hollywood Reporter.
Elisa García Grande, executive director of ICEX-Invest in Spain, will share a discussion panel with international executives to talk about Financing and Co-production in the talks organized during Mipcom by the British media and podcast TellyCast, and will attend various small-group encounters with the international media gathered in Cannes.
Opening of Antennas to support the sector in the US and Asia
In recent months, ICEX-Invest in Spain has set up support antennas in Los Angeles and Singapore to carry out various research and consultancy tasks and to improve the positioning of Spanish companies and talent in the United States and Asia, priority markets for the internationalization of the Spanish audiovisual industry.
As part of its mission, the Singapore antenna is already coordinating Shooting in Spain’s participation in the Busan International Film Festival (2 to 11 October), a Korean event it is attending for the first time to explain why Spain can be a strategic partner for Korean producers. It is also attending Gamescom Asia (Singapore, 17 to 20 October), the satellite event for Southeast Asia organised by the renowned video game fair Gamescom.
On the other hand, the Los Angeles antenna is preparing an exclusive networking event before LocationEXPO (Las Vegas, 5 to 10 November). Entitled “Spain in Hollywood”, the meeting will feature the flavor of Spanish gastronomy and wines. It will bring together senior executives from American majors and studios with Spanish producers from the leading service and post-production companies.
The evening, scheduled for the afternoon of 4 November, will be hosted by the Consul of Spain in Los Angeles and the Economic and Commercial Counselor of Spain in Los Angeles.
Launch of the Who is Who Shooting in Spain Guide 2025-2026
Just before the end of the year, Shooting in Spain will travel to the UK to once again attend Focus (London, 10 to 11 December), the forum par excellence for the international production services community. On the eve of the event, ICEX-Invest in Spain will organize a Shooting in Spain networking activity in London, which will bring together Spanish service production companies and foreign producers interested in filming in Spain.
The London event will also host the launch of the new edition of the Who is Who Shooting in Spain 2025-2026 Guide, the long-awaited update of this directory that brings together Spanish companies specializing in providing services for international shoots. Shooting in Spain will also have a stand in the Focus exhibition space, where its team will provide information on opportunities to produce and set up in Spain and on the Spain Audiovisual Bureau as a one-stop shop for channeling all inquiries about the Spanish media industry.
Q4 2024: new campaign under the claim “Making it easy for you”
Underpinning the visual development that will accompany all Shooting in Spain activities during this fourth quarter, the promotional brand will be accompanied by two new artworks that highlight the essence of the claim used throughout this year, “Making it easy for you.”
The first of these uses the metaphor of a lighthouse that illuminates and facilitates the way in the dark, using a night photograph of the Formentor lighthouse (in Mallorca);. In contrast, the second reproduces the aesthetics of the credits of a film to highlight some international productions, both series and feature films, which have been shot in Spain in recent years.
