The second season of the Netflix biopic ranked among the top 3 of Nielsen’s most viewed original series on OTT in the country for the week of its premiere.
Seen by more than 25 million households in its first season, Selena: The Series, Netflix’s original biopic about the music superstar, returned on May 4 with new episodes and once again managed to win over viewers in the US.
Thanks to its second season, the series managed to enter Nielsen’s Top 10 of most viewed series on OTT in the US, placing third in the ranking of original series with 639 million minutes viewed.
The ranking of original series is led by the Netflix series, Jupiter’s Legacy, followed by the new season of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, in second place.
The rest of the list is dominated mainly by Netflix, with the series Shadow and Bone in fourth place, The Sons of Sam in fifth, The Circle in sixth, The Crown in eighth and Lucifer in tenth.
The Disney+ series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier complete the list in seventh and ninth place, respectively.
In terms of total minutes viewed, the big winner for the week of May 3-9, 2021 was the long-standing medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, which led the ranking of acquired series with 733 million minutes.
In second place was the ever popular NCIS, while Criminal Minds closed the podium.
The rest of the list is dominated entirely by Netflix, with Cocomelon in fourth place, Supernatural in fifth, Heartland in sixth, Schitts Creek in seventh, New Girl in eighth, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn in ninth and Bones in 10th.
On the film side, the ranking was distributed among the main platforms.
Netflix took most of the spots with The Mitchells vs The Machines (first place), Madagascar 3 (third), Things Heard and Seen (fourth), Love Happens (fifth), Green Zone (sixth), Scarface (eighth) and His Highness (tenth).
For its part, Amazon ranked second with Without Remorse, while Disney + came seventh with Moana and Hulu came ninth with The Clovehitch Killer.
