RTVE has come like many other companies to promote its best titles in the closing edition of Miptv in Cannes, with great enthusiasm for the novelties that this market will bring next year, when it moves to London with a new format. On this occasion, RTVE has brought several of its most powerful fictions, which have high expectations of international positioning.
Rosalía Alcubilla, head of Large Clients at RTVE, talked to ttvnews about what has been happening at Miptv and the company’s expectations about the changes that are taking place in the market. “It is with great sadness that we are closing Miptv after many years attending, but we also see that it is a tiny market, but for such a small market, there are many buyers, and many companies have come to say goodbye to Miptv,” she said.
Regarding RTVE’s presence in international markets, Alcubilla pointed out that they attend practically all of them. “There are some markets that are perhaps more global like a Mipcom and others that are more local, but they are all important for us, as we have several lines of business since we not only sell content, but we also sell international signals and do integrations from our subscription-based app. Having these three lines, we must go to all markets, and each one brings us something very good,” she said.
Regarding the content they have brought to promote at Miptv, Alcubillas stressed that fiction is one of the company’s main products. RTVE’s highlight at this edition of Miptv is La Ley del mar, a story based on real events in 2006 when a fishing boat goes out to fish and finds a ship adrift in the Mediterranean with 51 immigrants on board. “So there, under the protection of the Law of the Sea, they rescue the immigrants, and a political thriller is unleashed since they are not allowed to dock the boat and disembark the immigrants. This title has been uploaded to Netflix Spain and is number two; it also had a very good audience in Spain”.
They have also added other fictions such as Operación barrio inglés and Esto no es Suecia. “Which is a lot to talk about as it is a finalist at the Cannes Film Festival, number one on our platform as well; we also bring Detective Touré, where we recover a bit of the procedural genre, which has not yet been released in Spain but on April 1st it premiered in Portugal”, concluded the executive.
