A month away its premiere on Movistar Plus+, Los años nuevos, the original series directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, is already one of the most anticipated content on the Spanish platform, which was present at Mipcom to continue presenting it to the international market.

“We are very happy,” Rebeca Aguilar Domínguez, Distribution Manager for Movistar Plus+ Internacional at Cannes, told ttvnews. “The series was presented in Venice, which was an honor for us to be present at a festival of that magnitude.”

An original series from the platform, in collaboration with Caballo Films and in association with ARTE France, the series is created by Sara Cano, Paula Fabra and Sorogoyen himself, and represents the return of the filmmaker to a theme, that of relationships, which has been present in a good part of his filmography.

“Rodrigo Sorogoyen, it is a pleasure to have him working with us again. We made Antidisturbios with him and now we have him for Los años nuevos,” said the executive.

Los años nuevos shows the life journey of a couple throughout a decade, narrated in 10 episodes that revolve around the same moment: the change of year.

Iria del Río (El bus de la vida, El Inmortal, El infinito finde menguante, Antidisturbios) and Francesco Carril (Volveréis, Un amor, La reconquista, Galgos) play Ana and Óscar, the leading couple in Los años nuevos. Ana turns 30 on New Year’s Day with her life still unresolved: she lives in a shared flat, she doesn’t like her job, she often changes friends… Oscar turns 30 on New Year’s Eve with his life almost resolved: a doctor by vocation, faithful friends, and a relationship that comes and goes. The night they both turn 30, they meet, fall in love, and begin a relationship whose comings and goings will last ten years.

“The series tells the story of a couple over ten years, the comings and goings they have, no matter how much love they have for each other, it is difficult to stay together. But it leaves many positive messages and will connect with many people. Because it is a very close series,” explained the executive.

The series will arrive on Movistar Plus+ divided into the two parts in which the ten episodes that make up the series are grouped. The first will premiere on Thursday, November 28 and the second on Thursday, December 12.

In addition to Los años nuevos, the group is presenting Querer, produced in collaboration with Feelgood Media and Kowalski Films, and the first television series directed by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa.

The series tells the story of Miren, who after 30 years of marriage and two children in common, leaves the marital home and reports her husband for continued rape. This serious accusation forces the children to choose between believing their mother or supporting a father who defends his innocence. A family journey that progresses in parallel to the judicial journey with the same objective: to find out the truth.

“After many years, the woman begins the divorce process and at the same time accuses him of having abused her for 30 years. There you see how the children, who have lived with them, take the side of the father or the mother, and how the family receives the news, the friends… It’s curious because there are no flashbacks. What you see is what they are experiencing at present and you must make your opinion. The viewer has the same vision as the judge in the trial. It’s very interesting how each one tells the same situation from different points of view and how they have interpreted it,” explained the executive.

“We are excited. We released the first episode last week and this week we already have the second on platforms,” said the executive.

Finally, the executive highlighted Segunda Muerte, “a limited series that is an investigative thriller with two very well-known characters in Spain.”
