Megamedia Chile plans to give international exposure to all its original content, mainly its telenovela factory, which produces between five and six telenovelas annually, adding up to 42 telenovelas in its library. In addition to this, the company has created 34 reality competition formats over the past 20 years.
This was shared with ttvnews by Patricio Hernández, CEO of Global Content, the original production arm of Megamedia Chile. The subsidiary focuses on producing and achieving internationalization, whether through finished content or adapted formats.
“We plan to showcase, with greater strength, the capabilities Megamedia has developed over the past decade in the international market. Primarily, we want to showcase our telenovela factory to the world. Telenovelas are in our DNA. We have a great production unit led by María Eugenia Rencoret that has kept us at the top of the ratings in recent years, producing six telenovelas annually. We aim to spotlight all the content in our library, along with the original creations that emerge yearly,” said Hernández.
According to the CEO, another aspect of their international projection strategy involves partnering with third parties for co-productions and platform-specific productions and leveraging their expertise in telenovela subgenres, which include romantic melodramas, female-focused dramas, family-friendly dramedies, suspense thrillers, and telenovelas designed for couples in evening time slots.
Entertainment Hub and Reality Shows
Hernández also mentioned the launch of an entertainment production hub focused on developing reality competition formats, where they have also created several original concepts.
“We are about to launch a new reality competition format that builds on the experience we’ve gained over time. This entertainment team has created more than 34 reality formats over the past 20 years, in addition to the 42 telenovelas, all supported by a distribution arm led by Esperanza Garay of MGE,” noted Hernández.
Regarding reality shows, he highlighted that they are set to begin their first production for third parties in the second half of this year. “I can’t reveal the client or the format, but it has involved months of preparation to set up the complete production hub. We’re ready to get started,” he said.
What’s Coming in 2025
At the same time, the Global Content team at Megamedia will launch many stories that will be premiering in the second half of this year.
“We have a romantic comedy that is sure to make waves, adding to the 20 we’ve already produced at Mega, all of which have consistently ranked first in viewership. This one will have its initial premiere window on Mega, but we’re looking to adapt it for international versions or distribute the script. This is our spearhead project. It’s still under a working title; one is called Agua de Oro, and the other is Padres en aprietos. These will be the two prime-time telenovelas debuting soon at Megamedia,” Hernández concluded.
