Spanish-language streaming platform Pantaya announced today the series MalaYerba will premiere on October 14th exclusively in the US and Puerto Rico.
Accompanying this announcement is the official key art which offers a first look at the cast for this highly anticipated thriller series which was created by Natalia Echeverri, executive producer at Dynamo; co-created with director Andrés Beltrán (Distrito Salvaje, Bolívar: Una Lucha Admirable) and with screenwriter Esteban Orozco, whose screenplay Nomads was featured on the 2019 Black List edition.
The series is co-produced by Pantaya, Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and Dynamo. SPT has global distribution rights to MalaYerba.
MalaYerba tells the story of Félix, Mariana and Ignacio, three young, intelligent and ambitious entrepreneurs, who bet on a market that has just been legalized in Colombia: medicinal cannabis. Their company, KannaLab, quickly becomes the dream of every entrepreneur and the envy of their generation. Its founders are the perfect team: Mariana has the land to cultivate; Ignacio has the network; and Félix, the perfect and unique seed with which they’ll rule the world. However, their lives will be disrupted when Lola, an ambitious journalist, sets her eye over their company and discovers there’s a dark past behind the famous seed.
The 10-episode, 45-minute series stars María Elisa Camargo (Tarde Lo Conocí, El Barón) as Mariana, Carolina Gaitán (Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso, El Final del Paraíso, Narcos) as Lola, Juan Pablo Urrego (Distrito Salvaje, El Final del Paraíso, Historia de un Crimen: Colmenares) as Ignacio, and Sebastián Eslava (Distrito Salvaje, Narcos, Siempre Bruja) as Félix. The series is directed by Andrés Beltrán and Salomón Simhon.
