Currently celebrating its 70th Anniversary, Nippon TV, Japan’s leading multiplatform entertainment powerhouse, announced today the company will head to this year’s Mipcom with a new scripted format, The Greatest Teacher (60 min. eps.) in which a determined teacher, rebooted back one year in time, must unveil the truth as to which student pushed her off the balcony with her life at stake.
The company is also presenting two new unscripted formats, starting with Suspects on the Set (60 min. eps.), a unique mix of a scripted crime drama and an unscripted investigation battle, and 5 Friends, 5 Favours! (60 min. eps.), a new studio gameshow which features friends who battle it out to win for their celebrity friends.
Rounding out the slate is the new anime title The Apothecary Diaries (30 min. eps.), based on a well-known period mystery series that has sold over 24 million copies to date.
The announcement was made today by Mikiko Nishiyama, Executive Vice President of Global Business at Nippon TV.
“Starting last year, Nippon TV has strengthened its production and distribution capabilities aiming for further success in the international market. We are actively pursuing partnerships to produce original programs, aiming for series adaptation in international markets, whether scripted or unscripted. To achieve these goals, those programs will first be produced and broadcast in Japan as a pilot version for international markets,” commented Nishiyama.
“As we celebrate our 70th anniversary this year, Nippon TV is operating at full throttle as we head into MIPCOM with these four new titles.”
