Marking a record-extending eleventh international deal for this megahit format, the scripted format Mother has already been licensed to CJ E&M (South Korea), MF Yapim (Turkey), STB TV (Ukraine), Juvenile (Thailand), Radiant Pictures (China), Incognita (France), Atresmedia (Spain), Medyapim for MBC (Saudi Arabia), Green Show Productions (Mongolia), and ABS-CBN (Philippines). Mother continues to be the record holder of the most globally adapted Asian scripted format with these eleven adaptations.
The announcement was made today by Sally Yamamoto, Scripted Format Licensing at Nippon TV, and Christos Kompos, Program Director of Alpha TV.
“Alpha TV is renowned for its high-quality adaptations that consistently become major hits in Greece. Known for their discerning eye for compelling stories, it was only natural for them to choose Mother as their next big project, and we have confidence as well as look forward to the Greek adaptation. This adaptation marks the eleventh country to produce its own version of Mother, solidifying its status as the most exported Asian script in the world. We are immensely proud and thrilled that each of these versions has resonated deeply, touching the hearts of local audiences and those in the countries where they were subsequently exported.”
Christos Kompos, Program Director of Alpha TV: “Mother is one of the most captivating and moving formats of the last years. It’s an almost iconic title for the industry, with a very gripping and current storyline that has moved millions of people around the globe. We are thrilled with its Greek adaptation. Nippon’s format has provided our amazing local talent team with a solid base for narrating a tale full of emotions, which at the same time raises awareness around very tough and poignant social issues. Call me Mom will be one of our highlights for next season and we are really looking forward to sharing with our audience this great story.”
The heroine of this drama is a woman in her mid-thirties who has apathetically lived her life without interest in romance, society or even her own life. Working as an elementary school teacher, she learns that one of her students is being abused at home. Although unable to comprehend her sudden impulse, she decides to kidnap the young, abused girl to bring up as her own. During her life on the run, she re-examines her past lifestyle and searches for her path in life. Pivotal to this drama is the word “maternal.” The heroine, who had never awakened to her own maternal side, discovers this instinct deep within herself. This drama portrays how this unexpected discovery stirs the feelings of hesitation and conflict, which help her to mature as both a woman and as a person.
